Alright, my motor was pronounced dead today  BUT this means its 3.0L time :). Sooo i was given these two websites from fellow CEG'ers in my region: http://www.3lduratec.com/engines.html and http://www.lkqcorp.com/location/fSearch.asp?L=53

The first link seems very straight forward and easy to buy, but rather expensive. with that second link, i'm just confused on what to look for. I searched for contour engines, but they are all 2.5. From the first link they said they used engines from the 2001 taurus. Sooo... should i be searching for an '01 taurus engine?? Any imput/help would be greatly appreciated.

I am open to any suggestions, if theres an easier way to get a 3.0, please let me know. THANK YOU

If you can find an 01+ Escape motor it's a bit easier and you wont need to buy the engine mount or oil pan :). Also you can use the Escape timing cover.

well for starters stop looking on LKQ's website,, they suck balls,, they are a typical giant conglomerate that could give a rats ass about the walk in customer,, unless you are an insurance company they could care less. And yes the Escape motor is a better bet than the Taurus but i can't really talk i am running an 03 Taurus motor in mine,, just what was there.

If you go the LKQ route you have to figure out how to modify the engine so everything will bolt up and install it into your car.

If you use our link: http://www.3LDuratec.com we sell engines modified and ready to drop in without any modification.

Why don't you back up your negative attitude with a reason why you dont like them, instead of bashing them to death?

I bought my 3L engine from LKQ and it was in perfect shape. Had about 8K on it and was absolutly clean. Picked it up for $320 (complete engine). I have had first hand experience with them and walked away completly satisfied. So don't say they "suck balls" or "don't give a rats ass" when it isn't the truth. Try saying something like "One time I went through them for X and it turned out like this..."

LKQ is a reliable honest company by my standards and I wouldn't hesitate to buy through them again.

well maybe things are different where you are but i have dealt with them before,, i have never been to a place where the associates look down their nose at the common folk like at LKQ. so that is where i get my negative attitude from.

i'll take your advise.. the website doesn't seem very user friendly anyway. Where did you get your 3.0?

i got mine from Midway Auto in KC, they are connected nationwide and you can use their website to search www.midwayauto.com

and before somebody accuses me of it i don't work for them i work at a Ford dealership

It's all in the place you go to. I guess the LKQ location you went to, people were jerks. The place I went to just outside Indianapolis, the guys were in high spirits. I was in and out inside of 15 minutes.

I wasn't meaning to "come down" on you or anything, just asking you to be more specific because a few bad apples in one place is by no means a reflection on the whole company.

I wish we had more choice over here. We have two places Gundies in Bellingham WA and LKQ Foster Auto in Portland. Everywhere else are those junky yards that only have cars that have been sitting in someones field for the past ten years. Gundies seems to never have what I am looking for. So, I got mine from LKQ 03 Sable with 3000 miles 700 including core charge.

So, will you secure me a fine deal like that?

Man, seriously! LKQ engines in that condition in Florida are near $1000. I'd do the swap if I could get a descent motor for $320, much less a low mile cherry one!

I had a great experience with LKQ and would do business with them again. I bought two 04 Taurus engines each for 400. One had 4k and the other 10k miles, both are very clean and appear to be in wonderful shape. I can't say much on their functioning because they are not installed yet.

The service at the location I went to (Janesville, WI) was great. Execellent over the phone and in person. They loaded both motors into my truck for me and even lended me tools to remove an UIM so they would both fit.

Also, I actually found the 04, 05 motors to have lower miles and cost LESS than the 01s when searching their website.

Similar escape motors from LKQ were almost a grand so Taurus/Sable for me.

what kind of modifications would the '01 taurus engine need (or any engine that isn't stock SVT) to be put in a CSVT? or do they just fit like a glove..?

Definetly not like a glove there is much work to be done, for be about 3 hours worth of head porting, and about 5 hours worth of rebuilding that piece of **** injector harness. plus having to weasle the right front engine mount between the heads, and i didn't swap the oil pans but i wil later since the bolt holes don't line up on the pan. and i am sure i am forgeting some things.

I did not find a glove in mine either. Don't forget cutting off the tabs for the alternator, swapping the cams and timing components, meshing with the knock sensor.

But on the flip side you might not of had to rebuild the entire engine. And, you are getting more displacement.

You know I have to say it is weird you are finding Duratec with under 20 k miles knowing that the car wreck a couple of years ago. WIth that being said you know the enigne has been set up for years and that in itself can be a problem.

One the rings may be set up and need to freed completely causing oil burn and compression drop since rings are suppose to float in the ring lands

Two the bearing in the motor will be gummed up and need to be replaced

Personally to me what makes a motor seem better than others is when they got the car in or when it was wrecked.

I rather have a 50k motor that just wreck few months ago then a motor with 5k sat in a junkyard for fours years and finally dropped the price to sell it.

If you have a recent motor you have a better chance of not doing a total rebuild or even changing bearings if you wanted.

So guys keep that in mind when you are buying motor there is a fine line of what motor suits your needs. Also remember these motor will get 125K usage if the owner changes his oil and does regular rountine maintenance.

Just some insight people might need to know Joey

I think that it is good to be aware that there might be old oil in the engine. My engine turns over smoothly and is clean everywhere. I see no need to disassemble the crank and pull the pistons, just to make sure there is not a little used oil in there somewhere.

Most motor oils have like a three year shelf life (in the sealed container). I am sure that the little oil left in the engine after most of it runs down to the pan will not have that much of an inpact on the life of the engine - especially when you fill it with new oil before running it.

Besides - doesn't the oil sludge help hold the engine together:shrug:
