6000K vs 8000K

Throwing in my two cents, the 6000K HIDs are the best choice. Problem is, people buy the HIDs with a higher Kelvin rating thinking they will provide brighter light when in fact the lower Kelvin rating is the most usable light. The 6000K HIDs I have in my SVTF are excellent and shine even on freshly paved and wet pavement. I purchased mine at www.gothidkit.com and was very pleased with the purchase. Have had them for three or more months and haven't had a problem with them. They sell any Kelvin you want up to 30,000K and also sell them in HI/LOW version (which I have) as well as Bi-Xenon kits. I will be buying the HIDs for the Contour from these people when I get paid. Well worth the purchase.
 
well had to drive in some fog this morning. since the sun was already coming up it was difficult to tell how well the HIDs where working but I did get a quick impression. I guess it rained last night and it was 40 out so it was one of those snow fogs.

anyway you know how if you turn your high beams on in the fog you can very clearly see where the light pattern is? normally you get those to bright strips that show where the hot spot or center of the light is? well I got that is the fog but didn't get the white out effect you would get from turning the high beams on. light looked alittle yellowish against the fog but I could see where it was illuminating the road. I think with normal halogens I would have been able to see where the light was.
 
I haven't really seen the a set of 5000K HIDs but my 6000K HIDs are a really bright white and do the job very well. If I can see how well the 5000K bulbs work, then I may throw those on Vader. Regardless, anything higher than 6000K is drifting into color shades and doesn't provide enough light. Stick with the 6000K or maybe the 5000K and you will be good.
 
Heres 5000k. Its a cell phone pic, so it looks more blue than it is. Like I said before, it only has a hint of blue.

No "add to cart" button for the raptor kit right now.
The site reads:
"NOTICE: The last shipment we were supposed to get in was delayed. We have pulled the raptor kits until we have them in stock which can take up to 2 weeks."

Oh well. I guess I will have to wait. I was going to test the fogs. I know someone had the 880 vvme kit in their fogs so I wasn't afraid to try.

Should I order the Apexcone kit of the DDM kit? Price difference of $5 and both have a lifetime warranty.

yeah I am alittle annoyed with that at the moment. I place an order on the 3rd and it seems they didn't have the raptors in stock at that time either, although I was able to order them ....

from what I read on the website the Apexcone kit uses a 3/4 sized ballasts where the DDM is the thin, small ballasts. the ballast pretty much fit in the palm of my hand.

yeah looking at the pictures the Apexcone ballast is easily twice as thick as the DDM one.


as for the fog lamps, since these are wires the same as the VVME maybe that are made at the same place :shrug: so there could be a good chance the bulbs will fit fine. seems like a reasonable guess anyway.

Off hand where is everyones alignment bubble right now? Some of those look like they're higher up than mine are.
 
my pic was of my pre98 and the driveway slopes downward so its deceiving. on my SVT, IIRC, they are about 2 degrees down according to the bubble levels.
 
We pre-98 folks get to eyeball it. You can tell I have it pretty close from the pic I posted earlier compared to halogen lights.

How can anyone actually use those? Unless you have a level on the ground and can show that it's perfect all around, the bubble is useless. I went that route and no matter what, the alignment was off.

Haha exactly. I've never used those bubbles. I've always eyeballed it and have gotten it perfect. My aim is spot on now and if I look at the bubbles they aren't even close :crazy:

I can move the car one inch, and the bubble can shift entirely to the other side of the headlight. It's a horrible design.

Yeah these headlights are by far the worst in terms of keeping their alignment. I closed the hood the other day after adjusting them, opened it back up and then checked the alignment without moving the car and the bubbles had already moved. Even tightening down the headlights properly changes the alignment.
 
I see that the Raptor kits come in 5000K I could pretty much split the difference between 6000K and 4500K it looks like :D

If they'd ever get the 55W in...

I thought the same thing when I was ordering HID bulbs for my fog projectors. I thought the 5000k would look good w/ my 4300k low beam projectors b/c my 4300k prob have color shifted a bit. Well the 5000k looked horrid next to the 4300k. It looked BLUE compared to the crisp white of the 4300k. And the output was A LOT worse. I should have known better b/c my low beams are OEM Phillips D2S "+" HID bulbs which do not color shift and stay the bright white that I like. Needless to say I bought 4300k for my fogs and have never been happier. 4 4300k bulbs lighting up the road is :drool:
