98 CSVT...Cooling Fans Not Functioning Properly

Today I tinkered a bit...

Today I tinkered a bit...

Checked on a few things today....

- I can hear the reducer cone moving within the water-pump housing...
- Upper radiator hose hot to touch but little to no coolant inside...
- Lower radiator hose hot to touch but now flow...
- squeezing upper or lower radiator hose causes coolant level in reservoir to rise and fall...
- still no fans cutting on...
-- i assumed that even the block being hot would provide enough temp to trigger the CTS to turn fans on

:shrug:

On the way to that shop:

- Pulled CTS to make fans run the whole time
- Heat was on full blast and I burned my ankles
- Temp gauge stayed near red-line
- Mechanic reported that CTS temp was 194* ?

So were they able to fix it? I have a similar issue. Only one of my fans turns on at high speed, neither turns on at low speed and my a/c compressor won't turn on (might be completely unrelated).

then you most likely have a bad fan motor, blown dropping resistor (lower driver side of shroud) or blown low-speed fan relay.

- to test the fan circuits jump the two large blade slots for each relay (high/low).
- test the low-speed first as it can tell you alot
-- if both fans come on then you probably have a bad relay
-- if both fans do not come on you probably have a bad dropping resistor
- test the high-speed second just to see if both fans run at high speed
-- if they do then the fan circuit for high-speed is just fine

** bottom line, both fans should be running regardless of speed (high or low)

Situation Update....

Situation Update....

Problem::mad:
- Fans do not cut on and cool car
-- all relays have been jumped and cooling circuits are working
-- new CTS and new temp sender for car installed a while ago

- Re-peen'd the reducer cone back into place...
- Installed new gasket and metal impeller water-pump...
- Installed new thermostat...

Noticed::blackeye:

- Better movement of coolant in coolant reservoir...
- Busted knuckles and bruised ego...

Known:
- Fans only operate when CTS is un-plugged...
- Lower line coming out of thermostat assembly gets hot but stays mash-able...
- Upper line coming out of thermostat assembly gets hot, somewhat mash-able but appears to have fluid in it...
- Heat on high/vents yields blistering heat...(heater-core appears to be good)
- Radiator gets ridiculously hot... (thermostat tested and working so hot coolant getting to radiator)

Unknown::confused:
- Vapor lock, air bubble, etc...?
- Radiator not flowing?

NEED SOME DIRECTION HERE LADIES/GENTS
- can reach me at (470) 208-9230...(preferably text)

Side notes I forgot:
- With the CTS unplugged, the heat running full blast, and the car sitting, the temp gauge will peg itself between the 'A' and 'L' of "NORMAL".
- With overflow cap off steam can be clearly seen emerging from the overflow tank.
