 75 K on car , very noisy hum from front .
Can a member point me to the "how to "take the front hubs off and get
the new bearings pressed in ,I tried search ..no luck for me
.I intend to go to a machine shop like NAPA to
have them pressed in. Thanks.

have you confirmed that it is the wheels bearing?

have you done an o'clock test to see if its the bearing?

does the noise go away or get louder when you turn a certain direction?

have you checked the axle nut to make sure it torqued to 210 ft-lbs?

lastly the wheel bearing on a contour are basically a maintinence item as many have had to replace them.

re the wheel bearings

re the wheel bearings

Hi Thanks for comments ..
The front noise (bearing ?) noise gets a lot less when I turn the steering wheel left or right ,
I have not checked the torque on the large(axle nut)
The noise started almost suddenly after the spring salty roads in Ohio ,
at first I thought it was caused by alignment ,that was done ,tires are like new .
I can check the axle nut torque .
What is the best way to confirm bearings.
Thanks for all you help.

best way to confirm is the o'clock test

O'clock test

Jack up the car one side. Place on jack stand.

Grasp wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and push in and out. Any movement, most probably suspect wheel bearing.

9 and 3 o'clock - tie-rod/ball joint.

Lower the car and do the same for the other side.

but it does sound like a wheels bearing. just don't want to see you rip it apart and have it not be the wheel bearings with out doing a few simple things first to confirm.

hi Tony,
I did the o'clock test ..I cannot find any play 12 /6 o'clock however on the 3/9 o'clock I have play and clunking on both sides ..so I thank you ,I start with the easy part first and then see if I have more problems later ..
