after reviewing the how-to's for the UIM/LIM rebuild a few times and getting all the part #'s i have a few questions.

-the how-to only states replacement of O-rings in the the fuel injectors for pre 98. dose this mean i don't have to worry about the one thats in the lim?

-same as the fuel rail to LIM seals. pre 98 only.

-"UIM Plastic Retainer Grommet with brass insert sleeve" I'm am unsure of what this is. after searching i found this: http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/s...allposts&Main=1251259&Search=true#Post1251329 . is that it? if so I'm not going to worry about it.

well i think thats it. thanks.

Thats it but you do NOT need to replace it. If you remove the vac lines from the top of the UIM properly it will not be damaged.

The other stuff should be replaced. UIM and LIM gaskets, TB gasket if you remove it, EGR gasket if you remove it, also fuel injector o-rings (the LIM and fuel rail sides).

ok now that i have everything apart for cleaning to begin tomorrow i have a question about cleaning the intake ports in the heads.

as said in a sticky: 4 cylinders will have the intake valves closed.
now after my brief looking (I'm tired long day) they all appear to be closed. now i don't know how high the lift is on svt cams but i would have thought i would be able to tell. any thoughts?

at least the injector side ports and valves are darn near clean. (obvious reasons)
thanks everyone!

yea again I'm tired so I'm sure i missed something.

also i think i may post some amendments for the how-to as my fuel system is kinda way different.

good night ceg..ZZZ..

IIRC, all but one of mine were almost closed. MAKE sure to remove your plugs while scrubbing the valves, it will give the Berryman's a place to evaporate from, and will keep your plugs from fouling when you restart it once finished.

OMFG cleaning the inside of the UIM is a PAIN! I'm going to kill something. so i searched.

i did know about the pouring in the B12 and letting it sit over night but theres no way in hell that would get everything. so i found this on the old forums http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=2322&itemType=PRODUCT
well these better help me out or before i place my order whats your idea? or the way you made them spotless.

I went to BigLots, a local discount store, and bought a set of 12 different size bottle brushes, made it a lot easier.

PS, don't spill Berryman's on the paint or it will turn an ugly brown color, don't ask how I know.:blackeye:

P.P.S:

Don't place your UIM in your bathrub to fill it will berrymans, or it will eat the bathtub completely through and you will have to replace the entire tub.

Don't ask how I know, either.

Hey Ray, how did the wife take that one? "But honey, my car runs soooo much better now...."

I think mine would have shot me.

I did as Scott did, went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of bottle brushes (check the baby section). I completely covered the UIM in towels, sprayed the Berryman's into the UIM, then I cut off one end of a bottle brush (the small brush) and installed the metal end into a cordless drill. I covered myself in plastic before turning on the drill. It made quick work of getting it clean. :) My clothes didn't get too dirty, just my hands. I'm not one to wear gloves but if you don't want your hands filthy looking for a week, wear gloves.

Oh no! I bet your wife wasn't to happy.

This is what I used:

I cut the small brush off, cut right before that center plastic part and use the larger brush in the drill.

I was looking for some pictures for you.

I used the small end of the brush for this:

I did not use the cut brush with the drill for the large opening seen in the picture. I did this by hand.

For the LIM I used a small brush and bent it to clean the closed ports:

We stuffed a small rag into the open ones and I used the large brush to clean them.

I also cleaned the UIM without the drill so as to get inside farther. It's a tight fit back there. I blasted with Berryman's and tilted the UIM for a few seconds so the Berryman's could do it's job before scrubbing.

one thing i did notice is my LIM dose not have the SVT sticker like everything else. and theres no evidence of one ever being on there. ford better not have slapped a non-svt one on.

right now what i have clean is:

-LIM
-throttle body
-IAC

as of now i have found that toothbrushes work best but can only go in so far.
ive taken everyones old ones. haha

and right now I'm working on the heads. this is not fun lol. theres really no way to pull the solid stuff out off the valves. so i have to just keep letting them soak to break down the solids so i can suck it out. as well as stuff a shop towel down there. at least the injector side is darn near clean. just the top of the port for those are dirty.

B12 is the only way to go! i got 5 spray cans and 3 liquid. then realized i need more spray. the only store that has B12 around me is like 15-20 Min's away so i got some of the gunk brand cleaner and it sucks. the unused cans will be taken back. lol so i have to wait until i have a car ( mom or dads).

OMG my mom comes home from work and says "Jon, i have baby bottle brushes"!!! haha they are 20+ years old.

now if only my turkey baster worked. time to find an eye dropper or maybe those baby ear cleaner suckers laying around here.

ALSO my injectors have NO retaining clips. they snap or click in/out. the o-ring also retains them. none of my repair manuals (ford cd and haines) have this type in them. along with i have 4or 5 bolts holding the fuel rail on.
