Acceleration cuts out

I have a 98 SVT and have a problem. My car seems to "cut out" under acceleration(intermittent problem). I have new plugs/wires/coil/tps/fuel filter/cleaned injectors/and fuel pump screen. Please let me know if I have missed something to replace. Any sugestions will help as I am very close to getting rid of this day to day repair nightmare. I have never had a car that has required so much repair and had so many "quirks". From the electrical to mechanical it seems almost not worth having it. Don't think I am a novice to owning a Ford either(3 mustang gt's/1 71' mach 1 fastback/escort exp/and a Taurus SHO) so I know that Fords need love. I drove my 93 subaru over 45000 miles in 9 months without a single problem. This car has an issue almost daily. So please help!!!!

So, the new coil pack did not take care of the problem? Any CEL codes?

It took care of the stalled no start again having to have ot towed problem(with no codes of course) but it does that cut out briefly on acceleration feels like no spark thing(bad wire going to the coil via the plug??). Not quite sure.Any suggestions??-

Does it just bog out or does it not feel like you have any power at all? What RPM's, all through the powerband?

It does it on acceleration and it just cuts out like I have cut the car off(only for a second) and then it comes back(around 2-4 when I just start to get on it). I do not lose electrical power(just go power). Like it has lost all spark and then comes back.

my camaro did this a few times b4 both my MAF and my fuel pump died

u should take a look at those :)

edit

actually if i recall correclty it was my fuel pump that went soon after but then a year later my MAF went bad and it did the same thing at WOT

I would be leaning towards the Fuel Pump itself. It also would not hurt to clean the MAF sensor with some electronics cleaner. Also check the secondaries throttle linkage. Have you cleaned the UIM and LIM on the SVT yet? These are the places I would start.

I'm going to say fuel pump as well, I'm all to familiar with the feeling as my 99 @ 214K+ KMS does the same thing. Does the problem coincide with fuel level at all or coming off/out of a corner/hill?

Seems to do it at start of accelleration on a right turn from a stop(I checked all of the previous mentioned/cables-etc..) What happens on a right turn?
Does something happen to the contour fuel/electrical system on a standing still take off right turn?-

As you know the fuel pump is located front and center in the tank. So when starting from take off and making a turn left or right, the fuel will move away from the pump body. If the level is low you may be starving the pump of fuel. If you have a fair amount of miles on the pump, it wouldn't hurt to replace it any way. I would vote for the Focus SVT pump as a replacement. I have a good feeling this is where your troubles are coming from, but there are also other possibilities as mentioned above....

Does the fuel pump shut off when starved for fuel(and then shut the ignition off as well?) to not permit air being sucked into the system??-
Mike

I'm not sure how exactly it works. But i'm sure it pulls timing and spark when it senses a lean issue. I seriously think this is your problem. Have you installed a new pump since you've been the owner? How many miles are on it? I may have missed the miles if you posted that earlier. You can pick up a Focus SVT pump for around 100.00 bones. It wouldn't hurt regardless. Especially if there are some miles on that pump. I'm at 158K on mine and it is time to replace mine as I am having some issues with fuel delivery cutting in and out. You should be able to change that pump body out within 30 minutes from inside the car. I'm sure you already know that seeing that you already changed the screen.

Great-Will do-Do you have a part# for the svt focus pump-what year..etc. I will order today-Mike

This very well could be the problem. I had not heard of that happening, but I don't know everything. Money-pit, pull the assembly back out and have a looksee for any cracked or broken lines. Get back to us and give us the results.

I will pull the pump again and see what the issue is-as it would stall and hestitate with lower then a quarter of a tank in it(about a gallon left). I pulled the screen as recommended but now regret it. I also did not get the plate seated all the way and gas leaked out of the top of the tank(on an incline) after I filled it up. I have not had a stalling or hesitation issue since I filled the tank and re seated the pump plate but I will replace the pump regardless(and put a screen on if it is recommended?) Let me know-

If checking cables, be sure to check the main ECM harness that runs along the firewall. My 98 SVT pinched the harness between the engine lift bracket and a/c tubes. The resulting rub-through and short stopped me dead. Your cut-out could be a short when the engine torques.

Or not, but this is simple to check.

Thanks -I will check- I am going to start a new thread about a really bad starting issue I had this morning. Usually, it starts and runs a little rough for a moment and them clears up-this morning it took multiple times for it to start and once it caught and started it ran really rough and then cleared up-Any ideas?? It was about 45 degrees this morning. I have never had a modern fuel injected car act like it was carburated and needed a manual choke(I know that it is all computer controlled) but what gives-fuel pump?? I am just about to replace it-any other suggestions will help-
Mike
