I got a aftermarket 30 shift knob off eBay and I put it on but won't go into reverse anyone got suggestions

I put a Chevy knob on my car this winter. Look at a 2002 Chevy cavalier manual trans shift knob. It is a round ball shape and is made to work with a shift lockout ring. It is molded plastic and slightly soft. It is not threaded but, with careful installation the shift lever cuts threads into it. For not being leather it is quite comfortable to use.
