alternator wiring

I picked up a 98 contour with a 2.0 liter automatic. The engine had been removed by the previous owner because the timing belt had broken. I am having difficulty figureing out the wiring to the alternator since I have never seen how the wires were on it in the first place.

It appears that there are two large wires that go onto the alternator. One of the wires has a lug on the end of it so that the end of the wire looks like an "L". This wire is the same wire that is connected onto the starter solenoid. The other has a plastic connector with a washer inside of it and I think it comes through the mega fuse.

It looks like the plastic connector wire should go on the stud that is sticking out of the back of the alternator. I don't see any other stud for the "L" shaped wire to go onto and I don't see how you could put both wires on the same stud.

Can anyone tell me where these wires should go or maybe have pictures that would tell me how to put these wires in the correct place?

thanks

OK

Here is some more info. I looked at the wiring again, the end of the wire with the plastic connector on it that I think goes onto the stud on the back of the alternator connects not into the big bundle of wires along the firewall, but looks like it goes onto one of the starter posts.

The starter solenoid has three posts for wires. One small wire and two large wires. The one large post gets the molded connector that runs from the battery. The other large post gets the other end of the wire that has the plastic connector on it with the washer in it that goes onto the post on the back of the alternator.

I know that usually there is a wire that runs directly from the battery to the output of the alternator. There is also a wire that runs directly from the battery to the starter. So I can see that Ford just used the same wire to run from the battery first to the starter and then to the output of the alternator.

But that still leaves the end of the wire with the "L" that heads over to the back of the alternator. Where does this wire go?

I hope this makes all this confusion a little more understandable.
