HELP
Can anyone tell me where to buy a B&M shifter for a contour svt.
I looking the cheapest place in internet, I Know is around $180.
I hate cheap shifters.

Got mine through Summit Racing who will price match the lowest price you can find.
I think I paid just under $150.
Either way its a GREAT mod.
Look into the Cougar aluminum top knob too, I love mine.

I paid $69.99 shipped for mine new in box on ebay this winter. $180 is probably the highest I have ever seen them. Get the part # and then search for it on www.google.com/products. I bet you will find it much cheaper.

Why not just chop the one you have down?

Because the B&M gives it a finished look, unlike chopping the stock which makes the reverse lockout useless and leaves you an exposed shaft with a giant shift boot floating there.

B&M, I can only find online for about $150 bucks I have searched everywhere.

I personally purchased the Fidanza Short Shifter $89 Shipped.

Both of them are available on ULTRAREV.com, I got mine the 2nd day after ordering.

Im just gonna have it welded on the bottom by the ball to make sure it doesnt break and I will have something very reliable.

Ive heard of several people getting the fidanza and being happy with it.

LUCA personally pmed me and told me she loves the feel. She doesnt ride the car, really hard and she hasnt reinforced welded the ball and has had it on for a WHILE. So.....

I went fidanza, IT Doesnt come with a Shift Knob but I have my own. Maybe thats the price difference.

I have a Steeda Tri-ax in my 3L and B&M in my other SVT. The finish of the Steeda is nicer, but the B&M is much shorter, and I personally like the B&M better.

Does the Fidanza keep the reverse lock-out? If it does it might not be a bad idea to go that way---there isn't much to the B&M and mine didn't come w/ a knob anyway. It was a nice kit with good instructions/grease/etc. and I felt it was worth it.
Makes the stocker feel like rowing a boat

Yes, Fidanza keeps the reverse lock-out.
I got mine in the GB a few years ago. I bought it because the price was reasonable and I didn't want to be out a ton of cash if I didn't like it.
I've had no issues at all.
I know Amyn said that I don't "ride" the car hard ( ;) ) but it has been put to the test a few times and it's been fine. Once day I may have it reinforced.

Amyn, you wrote about what I had told you ... I'm LMAO! Ya know, the way you wrote it. ;)

If you know what I mean

Yep, I knew what you meant but it sure was funny the way you typed it. :)

juankordonez, you'll love the short shifter. For me, it took a little getting used to but now I'd never go back to the stock one. No more hitting the stereo buttons when you shift.

Just stay away from the OBX shifter, if they're still around. That's the shifter that was known for breaking. It happened to me, so I had to get a ride home to pickup the stock shifter to reinstall. OBX = POS.

The problem with the shifters is the bottom ball. I got mine welded up for $15 prior to install.

Damn I remember buying the B&M for like $60 new. Inflation I tell you... :p

Whatever shifter you pick DO NOT reattach (leave it in as a spacer) the POS centering spring. It is garbage for fast shifting. It pulls the shifter, and thus cables, into the stops between the gears.

Once day I may have it reinforced.

If you ever need it reinforced PM me. Depends on when but from time to time I have access to a welder and reinforcing the bottom ball is a real quick and easy job. I had Craig (Onimitsu) reinforce my Custom Cougars shift knob when I got it.

I've now got a B&M in the car and I absolutely love it. Much higher quality than the CC short throw. Plus, the weld on the bottom ball is way better...

Thanks, I appreciate the offer. :) I should get it done.
I wanted to see if I liked it so we installed it and never took it back out.
