B&M shifter?

not with the parts that are provided as the 2000s have a plastic shifter base and the riser plate doesnt work with them. you can either replace the shifter base with a metal one (easy to do) or cut out the bottom of the plastic base and then put a plate on under the car. my opinion is that if your unbolting it and removing it you might as well just put in the metal base.

there is a shifter on ebay i'll post a link for tonight that I bought just for the heck of it for under 40 SHIPPED and it is identical to the fidanza one poseted above. Had it in the car for a few days now with no issues and I figured I couldnt go wrong with 40 bucks loland it combined with one of these voodoo knobs is nice and low. I think it might be a hair shorter than my old B&M as well.

trey let us know what its like when you get it, I might get it if you back it up.
lol read post above the last one man. I have had it in the car for like 3-4 days now and I am enjoying it. For 40 bucks it cant be beat.

Here's a question while we are on the subject- How do you get a replacement fan nut (or whatever you want to call it) that holds the front rod in place? I can never get them off without breaking them. The B&M came with a replacement, but when I switched them between cars, I tried looking for a new one and the guys at advance auto looked at me like I was crazy. I've got something rigged up for now, but I'd like to get a few real replacements.

lol my bad man, so did it come with everything you need to hook it up? got any pics of it installed?

rob you might wanna just bring one of those nuts into menards or something and see if they can find something similar? that or you might have to get ahold of someone from B&M

the only thing you have to re-use is the bushing or whatever you call it on the main pivot ball. just swap it over to the new shifter thats it. They work on all year models as well with no issues as I have one in my 99 and my buddy here in knoxville got one and we have it installed in his 2k as well. he loves it and I do as well. wonder if we could do a gb on them thru this person?

cool, ya for that price I don't see them doing a GB for much less money, but eh I guess it couldn't hurt to try

TX00SVT, that part you are talking about was only used on the 00 MTX setup. Previous shifters did not have that.

I guess maybe I should get a metal shifter base. Actually, I would think that all the focus shifters should use it to, considering that the B&M is actually made for the Focus, and the install instructions show a plastic base, like the 2000 Contour.

I wouldn't bother with the earlier shifter setup. It can only be replaced from under the car. That would require removing the exhaust heatshield and possibly dropping the exhaust down.

I think I have one of those plastic clips since my old B&M came with it, but it has one of the tabs snapped off. The rest of it is fully in tact. Not sure if that helps you or not.

Yep, I knew what you meant but it sure was funny the way you typed it.

juankordonez, you'll love the short shifter. For me, it took a little getting used to but now I'd never go back to the stock one. No more hitting the stereo buttons when you shift.

hahaha!! I'm learning english....
By the way I got my (45086) B&M shifter from ebay ($99)
Thanks for your help!

Can anyone show me how to replace the short shifter?
Pics it's gonna be nice!!!
B&M came with good instructions and grease. Follow the instructions and look at what you're doing and it will be easier to understand. Like I said the only tricky part was getting the ball end back in its holder, but even that wasn't too bad.

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead. But when I searched I wasn't finding any good threads on this. But I need advice. Please help if you have any experience with B&M Shifter. Ok so, I bought a used B&M off eBay for my 98 CSVT. Long story short took it apart today to mount it and had a few issues. The reverse lock out does not work. It rides over it's stop. Compared to stock shifter that rides in the groove. Can't figure out why. It's Causing the lower linkage to hit the shock tower which broke the retaining clip which now I have to figure out where to get one of those. Please any knowledge would help.
