Will this still give a good deal better handling over stock struts and springs? I can't afford new springs and struts but I can afford 4 new BAT struts. Car has 120k on it all stock suspension.
Your springs will prolly snap like twigs.
Do it all or don't do it all, IMO.
????????? How do you figure THAT??
Anyway, if your struts are shot get BAT replacements now and you'll be fine. You'll notice a very nice difference over your old stockers, but the handling will be only slightly better/firmer than new stock. When you get the extra $220 for the springs - that's when the car will come alive. The springs make all the difference in roll, nose dive, etc.
And yes, your stock springs will survive just fine despite what Beans said.
I'm thinking about the same thing. I picked up new rear struts today and am waiting for the upper mounts. The car has 108K, and I'm keeping it at stock height. Since I don't drive the car very hard, I wonder if I should just keep my stock springs. Two mechanics said the springs weren't broken.
If there's a compelling argument for new springs, is there a particular brand to get (or avoid)? If I'm going to spend the money, I might as well get something that optimizes handling. Moog looks like a good bet for OEM. But I read in another forum that nearly all OEM aftermarket springs come out of the same Chinese factory and just go into different boxes. I assume that's true to a certain extent, but you'd think some companies specify better materials and higher quality control.
