Will this still give a good deal better handling over stock struts and springs? I can't afford new springs and struts but I can afford 4 new BAT struts. Car has 120k on it all stock suspension.

Your springs will prolly snap like twigs.

Do it all or don't do it all, IMO.

????????? How do you figure THAT??

Anyway, if your struts are shot get BAT replacements now and you'll be fine. You'll notice a very nice difference over your old stockers, but the handling will be only slightly better/firmer than new stock. When you get the extra $220 for the springs - that's when the car will come alive. The springs make all the difference in roll, nose dive, etc.

And yes, your stock springs will survive just fine despite what Beans said.

yeah no kidding, stock springs should be fine ... 192k on mine replaced struts at 130k.

the struts will make for a firmer ride, no more bouncing around. But new/different struts will make a big difference in handling, etc

I'm thinking about the same thing. I picked up new rear struts today and am waiting for the upper mounts. The car has 108K, and I'm keeping it at stock height. Since I don't drive the car very hard, I wonder if I should just keep my stock springs. Two mechanics said the springs weren't broken.

If there's a compelling argument for new springs, is there a particular brand to get (or avoid)? If I'm going to spend the money, I might as well get something that optimizes handling. Moog looks like a good bet for OEM. But I read in another forum that nearly all OEM aftermarket springs come out of the same Chinese factory and just go into different boxes. I assume that's true to a certain extent, but you'd think some companies specify better materials and higher quality control.

I have BAT struts and Eibach springs.
Really good in the handling department. And it scores high on the appearance department too with the nice drop.

Keep your stock springs if you like the ride height and don't drive the car hard. The platform already handles fairly well so your stock springs should be great for you. I like the ride of the stock springs with a fresh set of struts - very nice.

When you occasionally auto-x, want a more aggressive look, or drive like a crazy man, then it's time to consider suspension upgrades.

its pretty conveinent that this tread was in here, i was just seeing what struts i should buy for the stock springs i just put in. had the b&g autobahns and it was way too low, especially for the roads around here. the fact that i pretty much drive like a pussy most of the time also helps, thanks for the help guys.
