Brake dust covers for 16" wheels

not sure what you are talking about .....

want to help keep the wheels clean, or at least make them easier to clean, put a coat of wax on them. the stock wheels are painted afterall.
 
really waxing the rims will keep the brake dust from building up? never knew that, i clean mine & the next day they have dust on them. ill have to try it.
 
oh i thought it would of kept it from sticking. they clean pretty easy just wipes rite off. just dont like having to wipe them down all the time. so where did u find the brake dust covers maybe ill look @ those then
 
havent done the brakes on this 1 yet. so is it the semi metalic pads that cause the dust, would ceramic cause as much dust on the wheels
 
The shields that mount between the wheel and brake do help keep brake dust down. They are also a good way to boil brake fluid and warp rotors with spirited driving. I'd probably get better pads and rotors (green stuff for example).
 
yeah no contour ever came with a shield that mounts between the brakes and the wheel ..... second buying better brake pads.
 
Dusty pads do not equal "bad" pads, though. My track pads are freaking amazing when it comes to stopping but they leave a trail of dust EVERYWHERE. The car looks like it's two-tone when I'm running them. Top half is red, bottom half is black. :)

Brake pads always have some sort of compromise - I would run my track compound pads all the time if they weren't so tough on the rotor, so dusty, and SO noisy - they stop the car unbelievable fast. My street pads are quiet, they stop well, and they don't eat the rotor quite so quickly.
 
They were on a cougar. single bolt pattern only which makes me think its a factory thing. They have vents built in too. As far as brake cooling, I would think most of the air comes in the bottom of the car/ through the back of the wheel. The body of the car theoretically cuts the wind and deflects it around the face of the wheel. And if the wind was entering through the face of the wheel, don't you think it would help blow the dust away from the face of the wheel thus keeping them cleaner?
 
OK, to clarify, there are a couple of variations of dust sheilds.

The ones that are notorious for trapping heat & warping rotors are a 12-14 inch solid plastic disc that mount between the brake rotor and your rim. These rotate with the wheel. If you think they don't block airflow, I encourage you to use them, put em on all four corners and go drive like you stole it. A few years back, Autozone sold these in a bronze finish that were slotted and cross-drilled. Perfect for the guy who wanted the big-brake look, minus calipers. Donk owners often put the candy flake up on theezles.

Another type of "shield" mounts BEHIND the rotor. These are stationary and often 3/4 round with an area notched out for the caliper. These mount to the spindle or knuckle behind the brake assembly and are just slightly larger than the rotor. They are often shaped to catch/direct air onto the backside of the disc. These are often called splash shields, to keep water/rocks/etc away from the brake components.

Neither.

I will just have to get pics and or install one in my wheel to show you guys. I'm almost positive they are factory. They spin with the wheel, have small slits in them, and they look similar to ones I see on BMW's, Cadillacs and a G35 I saw today.
 
you can ask on NECO but I have never seen or heard of a contour or cougar coming with something like this. It really sounds like something out of the JCWhitney catolog.

I just gave a few examples..? G35, BMW 3-series, Buick Park Ave., Merc Cougar. My dad has a shop and I work for a tire place so I see a lot of cars, a lot of wheels and a lot of these things. The ones on a cougar look factory which is why I brought it up here. Just seeing if anyone has seen anything like it.

Edit: did a little searching and found things called Kleen Wheels. They look similar to that
