Brake lights not working, 3rd brake is OK

My brake lights aren't working, but the 3rd brake light in the window is okay. I jumped 12v to each bulb and they work and the fuse is okay. I traced a blue/black and blue/white from their respective sides in the trunk, under the rear seat and they disappear under the carpet. I took part of the dash apart and I think I see the wires, but I can't follow where they come together.

Any help/pics would be greatly appreciated.
 
Where is and what is this MFS? I have a similar problem with my brake lights
 
MFS should be the multi-function switch, it's on the steering column, turn signals\hi-low beams

had the exact same issue today !!! brake lights stopped working but my hazard lights worked, turn signals worked, running lamps worked, even 3rd break light worked .. after tearing my car apart checking the fuses, wiring and switches, i took out the bulbs for the hell of it replaced them and bam .. they work .. even though they worked with everything else except the break petal .. now they work flawlessly .. but ima keep an eye out just in case ... lol .. odd
 
same thing happened to me also. I got fed up looking for a way out thinking its the switch and cleaning the contact points..the whole nine yards....finally for the heck of it, did the same thing that Pblack did and tried swappin the bulbs...wallah!!!! poof!!! the left and right brake lights work. Dang ford engineering. Why in the first place they combine everything with the brakes!!

thats some crazy ish!!! yeah i fished for a problem for a few hours finally said the heck with it swapped bulbs and it's all good now... i felt your pain .. oh well we go through the hassle so others can read about it and not fish for hours and just replace the bulbs ....
 
Had the same problem just bought a contour svt,3rd brake light works but left and right didnt,person who owned it before, i found out they ran a wire from 3rd brake light to the left light,worked fine during the day but at night with the lights on it didnt work the way its supposed to they just stayed on even the 3rd brake lol....F that.....So i went to the junk yard popped open a few tops to get to the multifunction switch,the oem ones have dates on them,found the latest date i could paid 16 bucks,went home praying this was the problem and sure enough my brake lights work now......thank God for Contour.org
