brake pad compound or rotors? poor braking performance in rain.

Like I said, I've seen it on a number of models of cars but only with an incredible amount of rain so it's typically years between incidents. As far as I recall, it's only happened once with my Mazda6 in 7 years for example.

This is very interesting.....my svt does the same thing when it rains. I have factory OEM rotors with ceramic pads. I am about to put new rotors and pads on in the next month. If anybody comes up with a solution please let me know. I would like to know which pads will work best. If I have to buy cheap ones that will stop better but wear out fast....then so be it. I will just have to change brakes more often. I can't complain though my svt has 254k miles on it and this will only be the second brake job I have done on it.

it seems to me that the cheap pads are actually a harder compond and last longer. A softer pad like OEM would brake better but dusts alot more.

Like I mentioned I have always used bendix or Motorcraft pads with good North American made rotors and I have never noted this before. It suppose to rain more over the weekend, so I'll see if it does it again.

Maybe it has something to do with how the rotors wear. I believe I might have a few grooves on the rotors. However the braking doesn't seem to be effected, but it isn't the smoothes braking that I recall from driving contours.

Distance and total amount of water run through in last minute before the stop will have variable effect. Mine used to do it much worse after 20 mile plus straight run then the exit ramp. I had to train myself to remember to drag brake just before the exit. Some days no trouble when expected and some days with hardly any water, trouble. I'll ask God one day what the extinuating circumstance was...........

Same problem with missing serpentine belt shield, one day you lose the power steering upon running through water, another day you don't.

New brakes are on and they stop really smooth. I have not tried them in the rain yet. We will see later in the week. What I replaced was all 4 rotors Napa mid grade, Pads Bendix titinum II, and New Slide pin boots. The only thing I noticed was my brackets had some small grooves in them from where the pads were sitting. This could easily cause the problem we are seeing if the pads are getting stuck and not sliding easily.

I have this same slippery brake feeling when I come out of a carwash, and it does happen in the rain, but it's far less noticeable. Then again, I live in an area that's one step shy of desert, so the car doesn't see a lot of standing water.

I have the TCE 13" Wilwood kit in front and the 11.75" upgrade in the rear. I have Motorcraft pads in the rear (not sure what compound) and Wilwood BP10 pads in front.

Well the brakes are great now. Feel like they always had before. No more split second no brakes feeling in the wet. We will have to see how long it lasts. If it is the brakets the pads should wear in and then it should start again. But that should take 1-2 years.
