Can you beat this?

How is driving economically impractical or unsafe? Boring I understand unless you enjoy the thrill of the challenge but I disagree with the other 2.
The other guys already mentioned the highway thing, but I still say impractical and unsafe to slowly accelerate to a max of 35mph. How many roads can you do that on other than side streets? Therefor impractical to do that for a full tank and also unsafe for the flow of traffic (thought that was obvious).
I had idiots on here saying I'd be a dangerous menace on the roads for correctly cutting my low-mile springs, and this whole thing is much more of a hazard to people on the road.
I'm not sure the point Reebs is trying to make, but I think its retarded. I'm happy with my 25-27mpg combined in a REAL commute.

I'm just pointing out that it is very possible to get over 36mpg in a duratec Contour to whomever said it was completely BS. You guys are crazy if you think I'd go 35mph on the freeway. I drive alot of curvy roads without stop lights and the Max Speed is 45 with corner speeds ranging from 25-35mph so cruising along at 35mph is very practical for me. Most of our freeways out here have a minimum speed of 55mph and I wouldn't go under that so all my highway mileage in the 526.8 mile tank was done cruising along at another practical speed. I'm just out to have a good relaxing time and settle my own curiosity of what these can do during best possible situations and felt it interesting enough to post for those who may have wondered as well. This actually isn't really about any "point" that I'm trying to make. I wanted to hear some feedback on other members "best case" tanks and so on. I'm sorry I made a retarded point.

Some people on this site are dead set on being cranky all the time, no matter what. Don't take it personal.
Just be happy with your great mpg and sparkling, sand-free vajayjay

For all those that can't read, I won't name names, I quote the OP.

Reebs said:
For that tank, I tried to average 57mph at 2250rpms on my freeway driving and shifted at around 1700rpms driving in the city while keeping it in 5th gear as much as possible

I don't think doing 57mph in a "Maximum" 60 zone is unsafe or impractical . Is it not common knowledge that roadways have a maximum and minimum speed limit? I don't hear anyone complaining about someone doing 10 over the max but 10 under will get you linched.

I think that most drivers consider the posted speed limits to be the "minimum" speed a driver should be going on that road, at least in this area anyways

Probably far less than 1% of police officers consider a posted speed limit to be an actual limit. Nobody gives out tickets for driving 5MPH faster than the posted number.

Reebs,
In this same car what is the best MPG you have ever got sustained cruising at maximum highway speed of 65 or 70mph? Doesn't need to be a complete tank just calculated from fill up to top off after.

Also does MI add ethanol to your gas? Here in TX they can add up to 10% ethanol to save money and definitely lowers mpg some.

I know a guy that burnt a lot of ethanol trying to figure out a tune that would return better fuel economy on an ethanol blend on his spec-v. He gets over 2mpg better with a 20-30% blend. I have not heard of this being done to another car. He says it's because of the unique piston ring design layout that most car companies are starting to use. The first piston ring is special in some way and it's mounted farther away from the other two compared to older designs. He did some math and used some big words and showed me his results. Even with the tune, e85 got worse mileage than straight gasoline, but not much worse. This is all meh if you own a contour though. I just thought that I would throw it out.

i'm lmao @ you people who think that reebs is making this up.

i have a vision in my head of him sitting there, twisting his imaginary mustache thinking:

"hmmm... what kind of fanciful thing can i make up and post about on CEG that will get a rise out of people. twin turbo contour? nah... i don't know anything about turbos. contour in the 12's? nah... i don't know anything about modifying contours. I'VE GOT IT!!! i will make up a story about how i'm hypermiling my contour and getting mid-30 mpg. yes!! mid-30's! muuu hu hu ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

good god... some of you people are rediculous. :nonono:

You are correct, I did sound a little 'sandy', I apologize.
I'm done commenting anyway on this thread, I don't feel anything mentioned on how to achieve anywhere close to that would be relevant to me. I'll just wave from the fast lane and pay more at the pump.

You don't pay more, you just pay more often :D

Here you go Reebs...I'm not sure if this counts though

Haha, nice! If your gas light JUST came on, you can easily get another 100km with the same driving pattern. You should have around 2.5 gallons till empty from when the gas light comes on. The book says 2 gallons but it has been almost exactly 2.5 gallons from empty in all 15 or 16 svt's I've owned. Might even be 3 gallons left if your one of those guys who really tops off the tank to end on even numbers at the gas pump! :D
