So yeah fooled around with the timing still cant get it to turn over. Anyone near indianapolis wanna give it a try? I have had 2 lincoln tech students and a wrecker operator get stumped trying to figure out why it wont turn over.
make sure the cam timing is correct. if its jumped a tooth (or a few teeth) then you will not have compression and it wont start. look at the timing belt FAQ under zetec maintance for your model year. you may have to start from scratch with it but once its done you can elliminate any chance that its out of time. also if the camshafts are not timed properly the PCM will not fire the coil at the right time.
your local auto parts store should have a compression gauge. pull all the plugs. thread the rubber tube adapter into one plug hole. attach the compression gauge. have a buddy crank the engine for about 5 seconds while you watch the gauge. the needle should jump up on each compression stroke. do this on each cylinder.
im not sure what the spec is off hand but if you post the final numbers someone will know.
