I believe I am in need of a clutch. On any other car I would do this myself, and have when needed. There has been some discussion on various threads regarding problems with some aftermarket clutches. I do not race the car nor drive the sh*t out of it so I have been able to get 155,000 out of the original clutch. It is not slipping but I believe all of the adjustment is gone from the T/O bearing and it is begining to cause the shifter to be difficult to engage 1st gear from neutral at times, but if I turn the key off it slips right into gear easily. This leads me to believe the clutch disc (worn and now thin ?) is still spinning even though the clutch is fully depressed. I get no unusual noises but occasionally it feels like it is trying to creep, or it shudders lightly with the clutch pedal on the floor. SO I ask: Compared to an OEM FORD factory clutch disc and pressure plate (if needed) is there anything to be gained with some sort of aftermarket (Spec, LUK, etc) disc and or pressure plate. Secondly, are ther any places to rent the required engine support to allow the trans to be removed?
Thanks in advance ..........Rick

First, if you dont plan on to race the car and such like that i would suggjest getting a stock clutch. There are many problems with the spec clutches and its been debated to death here.

As for shifting from 1st to 2nd hardness, thats most likely your shift fork wearing out. This is another thing you should probably think about upgrading while the tranny is out. There is a great tutorial on them in the old forums in the MTX forum.

But for clutch, just get a stock svt one. Thats what im currently doing with my tranny. Though my diff blew im also doing the forks and torsen diff.

You might have a worn clutch. you might not. Mine has many more mile that that and is still working great.

You may also just need fresh fluid in the hydraulic clutch. If you have not ever changed it or not changed it lately, do it now. You may find some of your problems gone.

Fresh trans fluid of the correct type may also help.
