I am thinking of buying a set of Mustang Cobra wheels (17x7.5) from a 1993 car. The bolt pattern matches, I don't know the offset. Anyone ever tried Cobra wheels on a Contour?

Wrong offset. They will stick out way to far and kill wheel bearings in no time.

That's a bad example though... XR's use a FWD offset for some reason.:shrug: Also...technically I believe those were AWD wheels first (Escort Cosworth). It should also be noted that the Mustang/Tbird bolt pattern is not the same. They use a 4x4.25 (or something similar) standard size, not the 4x108 metric Euro Ford size. I'd also be worried about the hub diameter, as I'm pretty sure those Fox bodied wheels are lug centric, not hub centric.
All that being said... I know of people who have them on their XR's. I suppose they fit "close enough" but not for me.

they bolt up...i've tried my cobra wheels from my mustang on my SVT....just stick out WAY to far.

yeah,the stang wheels will fit..just tick out. if you search the old boards you might find a pic...i remember someone a few years ago putting the standard foxbody gt rims on there contour.

these are 93 mustang cobra wheels
I have them on my mustang GT and was goofing around and tried them on my contour and no they don not fit at all !!!

How do you figure? Wheels that are the wrong offset screw up a bunch of stuff, but ackermann isn't one of them.
