Contour SE GT?? European Import?

Once it's in the country it no longer matters, it was imported legally and if the owner chooses to sell then they can, I do know in the US some states have safety requirements that must be met in order to sell the vehicle (ie if it had physical problems like parts hanging off of it and it was a safety hazard then they wouldn't allow the sale but if the car is in descent shape then It'd be a go.) that would be the only thing I could think of in Canada that may matter, you'd have to look into those types of specifics and see.

FYI, did a little research and the GT Mondeo came in a Sports version and was only offered inthe netherlands and is the equiv. UK Si

this is what was offered

GT - 1.8 L/2.0 L 4-cylinder, 2.5 L V6, 1.8 L turbodiesel, sports version, 4-door sedan, 5-door liftback, 4-door wagon. Only offered in the Netherlands, equivalent to UK-spec Si

Also it's hard to read the model decal but it doesn't look like it says Contour.

at least that's what wiki says.

The Mondeo and Contours are different cars. It's not like to original Focus that was mostly the same around the world. You can't just import a Mondeo, stick Contour badges on it and start using Contour parts -- most of the interior/exterior is different.

The car advertised is absolutely not a Mondeo. It was imported from the United States. There's not even a small chance it was imported from Europe. There's no mystery.

All I was originally stating was that there is a GT model offered in the mk1 package, I've been looking through lots of photos and it's definitely not a mk1, but it was offered. On that note A guy that I go drinking with Robert has a mondeo that he had imported. He now lives somewhere by tornonto, he was in the Canadian Air force and was perminantly stationed in Europe, when he picked up the car. Yes you can bring any safe automobile over under certain conditions. People in the military do it all the time.

There are many restrictions involved bringing cars into Canada. Basically, they have to meet our standards and guidlines, such as our higher front bumper crash test requirements (compared to the US), and certain items like Daytime Running Lights. There are other things, but these are just examples... For instance, the Lancer Evo was not allowed in Canada due to the front bumper impact. The intercooler being the problem there. As well, the 00 Cobra "R" was illegal as well, although 5 made it to Canada. They had the same issues, front bumper, DRLs, and they emittied too high a DB exhaust note.... Yep, they were too loud apparently! I think thats a crock when I see all these imports running around with fart cannons sticking out the back. Its like a megaphone for a weed eater!
European cars can be imported, as long as they meet, or are altered to meet the requirements. (DRL modules can be added, but the front end crash ratings can't be corrected... that I'm aware of...)
Anyways, just a little info for anyone that cares!
