Be Gentle I'm New Here
I have a 2000 Contour SVT. I noticed a small (2-inch diameter or so) coolant leak on my garage floor in the center of the front of my car. I thought that my water pump might have a leak, and since I'm not much of a mechanic (I know...it's sad) I took my car into my local repair ship (it's not a dealer repair shop). They put a die in the coolant and had me bring the car back in this week to see where the leak is.
They said that the water pump looks like it has leaked in the past since there's dried coolant around it, but that they did not see the die or wet coolant on it now.
They did say they found a leak in the oil cooler line. They said its near a weld in the line that runs near the catalytic converter. They called my local Ford dealer to find the part and they can't tell what part they are talking about in their books/computer. They can find a rubber line, but not a metal one. The shop I took the car to said that a rubber line wouldn't work because it would melt due to the heat of the catalytic converter. They also said that they wouldn't recommend re-welding the line.
Right now they are contacting a different Ford dealer a little further away to see if they have any idea. This dealer is contacting Ford directly to see if they know what this part is.
I'm wondering if SVTs have special cooler lines that are made of metal instead of rubber. Unfortunately I don't have an SVT dealer too close to where I live. Does anyone know this or have any ideas of what could be going on?
If the shop I took the car to can't find out what's going on I'm going to have them show me the leak and I will take my car to the Ford dealer and show them where the leak is. I'm sure they'll be able to find a replacement part then.
