Sandra and I just picked up another deal off Craigslist this weekend. I've really just been on the hunt for furniture to replace some of the stuff I have and also add furniture to some rooms. I'm quickly becoming addicted to Craigslist.

Just browsing around we found this last week and picked it up on Saturday. It's down filled and sooo friggin' comfy. The best part was the price......

Still sold at Pottery Barn:
Corner wedge - $1500
Left arm chair - $1100
$2600

Craigslist - $250 for both

I also just bought a second nightstand to match the rest of my Pier 1 bedroom set. Sandra bought a nice bicycle planter for some flowers outside. I just sold my patio set (which I got for free with the condo ) and fish tank on CL.

I thought it would be cool to post up any deals you made on CL buying or selling. Let's see em.

Nice buys man! We have threads on craigslist deals. I have spent over $10k on craigslist in the last 3 years .

Best buy yet was my 2004 Silverado, 4x4, 5.3L V8, 210k miles, for $6k

Crazy. I'm gonna go broke saving money on Craigslist.

What site do you use for searching outside your CL area? I was using Craiglook.com which was my favorite of any of the ones I've used but they just got shut down.

You can use the advanced google search and put in what you are looking for and search the domain name craigslist.org that seems to work well.

Yeah, I was doing that for a while but the only problem is by the time it's indexed into Google for searching, it's usually old. A lot of the results come back with expired listings. I still use it from time to time though.

Yeah, I've used a few like those in the past but never liked the way it showed results. It was just window after window of results for each region, regardless of whether or not there were any results in that area.

Craiglook was awesome because it pulled it into one list instead of broken out into seperate windows. It says they are trying to work it out with Craigslist to bring it back.
(Tough to see but it's all I could find)

The vast majority of everything I own was obtained through Craigslist. I use it as a means to buy high end stuff I could never afford new. If Craigslist ever needed a poster child... :D

True that. I bought both of my SVT's through Craigslist.

I wrote a decent post, but Safari ate it. So here's a list of my favorite finds.

Craigslist:
- 80s teal couch. Bought for free in 2006, gave away in 2007.
- Dining table and hutch from the 1940s. Some character in the table's uneven surface. My parents bought in 2006 as a Christmas gift. Previous owner restored it, sold as a drop leaf table and my dad converted it back to its original drawer-leaf form.
- Steel frame workstation (Ikea Galant set). Bought in 2004, sold in 2007. Ikea still sells it for 3x what I paid.

Used:
- Refinished furniture gifts from my parents. My TV stand was bought cheap at a yard sale, stripped and repainted. My coffee table was found along the side of the road, stripped and repainted/stained.
- I have a few chiming clocks, this from Craigslist ($30) and a Loetscher musical cuckoo clock from Savers in Nashua ($12, worth 300+).

Please excuse the pics, but I picked these up tonight for $60. Set of four in near perfect condition, excluding the finish.

The way I search Craigslist is not very fast to setup, but is functional when complete.

1. Choose a region
2. Select a section
3. click the RSS link
4. copy the RSS address into a feed reader (I use Google Reader*)
5. repeat steps 1-4 for every section and region you are interested in
6. use filters and/or search in the feed reader to find items of interest

* I originally used this method with Mozilla Thunderbird, but discovered that the listings were not always complete because I did not want to loose processor cycles and bandwidth to keep the feeds constantly up-to-date. Whereas, Google Reader maintains the listings almost continuously (or so it seams).

I'll give it a shot. I'm always up for better ways to search Craigslist.

i feel really stupid, but i just realized that i have been doing this in a far more labor intensive way than necessary.

new process:
1. choose region
2. click "for sale"
3. click RSS link
4. copy the RSS address into a feed reader
5. repeat steps 1-4 for every region you are interested in

**It is also pertinent to note that this method will not be very helpful with searching old listings, but sets up for the future

lets see picked up my coug for 500 from CL.
Also got my Oz Superleggara (4 with tires) for 200!

BTW, I found out that those are not RZs, they are BBS Mahles. In that size/bolt patttern, they will be worth about $1200 once I'm done restoring them!
