crankcase breather/PCV

So what exactly is the deal with the 3.0 crank breather (mounted on the block between the heads)? Has anyone taken it off to see what's different between it and the 2.5 assembly? I seem to recall someone saying that the PCV is integral to the crank breather box on a 3.0. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

well on the 04/05 engine the pcv is built into the rear valve cover and there is just a plate over the openning in the block for the 2.5L oil seperator.

The 3.0 I have is from an 03 Taurus and I will not be removing the heads. So I gather I just use the 2.5 PCV valve setup then?

if there is a plate between the heads where the oil seperator would be yes, you use the 2.5L PCV system.

if you are installing a straight 3L then you can use the taurus PCV system.

the oil seperator will slide between the heads so it can be isntalled. do this before installing the motor mount.

The 02/03 motors will have the oil seperator between the heads already. The separator is different than the 2.5L seperator so I think the PCV is already connected to the seperator and there is a rubber tube on it allowing you to connect your 3L PCV line to your intake manifold.

Yes, there is a seperator which is similiar but not the same as the 2.5 between the heads. It's definitely not a plate. Does this mean the PCV valve is integral to the seperator or do I add 1 like the 2.5? I'm using an SVT UIM.

You still need the pcv. On the 04 and newer 3L's, the pcv is in the rear valve cover and the separator is blocked off with a plate.
