i just got a 96 contour 2.5l with 66k original miles. this is my problem.

so ive had the typical contour problem "hot no start" while driving the cars fine but when i slow down, say in a parking lot , it decides to cut off on me and wont start back up until i let it cool down. so i got a check engine code for it and it was the sensor. so i replaced that thinking it would help it, or even make it go away. i was wrong.

after looking into this further i than realized that the 2 wires going into the connectiong to the crankshaft pos. sensor were exposed, i called my buddy and he did some searching around and said that could be the problem.... long story short, how the hell would i fix this problem?

as most of you know getting to the sensor is kind of a pain in the ass so i was just wondering would i have to buy the whole harness for it? im stummped.

ill take any help i can get. thank you again.

You shouldn't have to buy a whole new harness. The Crank position sensor actually is three wires though if you go to repair it just so you know (signal in/out and ground shield, if you cut the harness in the middle you will have to deal with the shield as well. Did it get cut by the serp belt?

Both my cam and crank Pos. Sensor plugs had exposed wires like you have, I did repair the crank one by kind of shoving the wire in and soldering it as one had completely ripped out so if your desperate you can fix it but my CKP isn't reading correctly anyways so I am going to swap to the 98+ and just solder the new socket on.

nah it didnt get cut by the belt i just guess from being in there and after time the cover on the wires just broke off ? i dont really know. i tried putting a peice of electrical tape between them so they dont touch each other but id rather have this thing fixed than just rigged, ya know? but thank you for the help guys.

if anyone else has ideas or had the same problem let me know what you did to fix it please.

thanks

personally i would wrap the wires with electrical tape, or cut the wires put some shrink wrap on and re solder them. then finally with either step i would probably put wire loom around them

yeah thats exactly what i was thinking i just have to call my buddies to help me out, im not to mechanically handy.

its def the exposed wires, just went to go to my new job (not so new now cause im probably fired haha) and i pulled out of the parking lot and the car was sputtering like crazy and would just die, and i know i touched the wires today cause i was trying to put electrical tape on them. at least i know its that now. just gotta find a way to re wrap them. thanks for everything guys. if you guys have tips on how to rewrap and how to cut into the loom please let me know. thank you :)

Liquid Electrical Tape. About $8 from Home Depot or Lowes. Just paint it on the wires.

damn i didnt even know they made that...

but yeah my buddy came back up and helped me out, he cut the main insulation back about 4-5 inches and the wire coating was cracked and missing all the way back so he finally found where the coating was still intact and just wrapped both exposed wires with electrical tape and put silicone where he stopped cutting just incase.

started it up, felt like it ran better, got it hot, drove it, beat on it, let it sit for 10 mins and nothing. so hopefully this works. if not. im gonna be scratching my butt. haha.

thank you again for the help guys.
