Duratec 35 - Is it a possible upgrade?

there's one on the horizon from an undisclosed source, so stay posted, but were looking at over 300 NA HP people!

sure it could be done, but im sure at this point with the electronics, and i bet it has VVT or some sort of cam timing, tuning that would be fun, to say the least. i mean with the 3.0 conversion, and the prices that can be had for those engines, and toms new turbo kit, i mean why even consider it, if you were straight rich you might as well make that thing all wheel drive too.

People have done away with the VVT in the Zetec engines and installed aftermarket adjustable cam sprockets on their cams. Why could that not be done here?? Once the sprockets are done away with, you can simply run the stock Contour ECU. You won't have to remove & replace existing cams.

Furthermore, the turbo kit you're talkin' about is $3k, plus some tuning. Add in another thousand or so for a 3L and gaskets, etc (assuming you do all the work yourself), and that adds up. For that kind of money, if the bolt pattern on the D35 ever comes in a configuration to match the D30.... I expect the D35 to show up in a lot of main-stream Ford cars like the new Taurus/Sable will have it for '08, the Edge already has it, the Lincoln Mk Z has it, maybe the Milan & Fusion will get it, and perhaps a Mazda or two and maybe even a Mondeo (OK wishful thinking...). With those production volumes the D35 should get fairly cheap.

Guess we'll have to wait & see.

okay, but the engine is bigger. and variable valve timing is a lil different that changing sprockets, and have u tried to remove the sprockets on a duratec, ud be takin more than a sprocket off, u would have to get new cams. plus i am pretty sure they dont even use a transmission similar to ours anymore.

i mean dont get me wrong, i would love to see something new and amazing done. like their sayin the 3.0 was doubted all the way, but then it happened. and it was amazing, it literally belonged in our engine bay :), its just this is alot more than brazing a fuel rail.

A few months ago on FCO there were pictures of this motor and the new MTX it'll be mated with. So if the MTX75 won't bolt up, maybe the new MTX will fit our bays. Until someone actually tries it, it's all just speculation.

I doubt it, but I wonder if you can put 3L heads on the 3.5 block.. I have no idea what that would produce, or even if theres clearance for it.

It has been reported that the two engines are completely different. If this is true, no the heads could not be swapped.

I was hoping that at least the 3.5 crank could be used in the 3.0.
