E. Brake cable?

I have a 98 Contour Svt and i thought my right rear caliper was frozen. My shop and I looked at it and its the emergancy brake cable going to the r.r. caliper. The only thing is to replace it I have to get under neath the exhaust heat shields. Does any one have a suggestion on how i should get those off?
