Easiest firewall penetration point for wiring

I didn't know where to put this question, so bear with me on this.

I need to run some wiring from the engine bay into the car (for gauges, etc.). What's the easiest way to do that?

Can I use some existing hole / grommet to push wires through? The one for the hood opener cable seems promising, but I am not sure if that's the best way...

Or should I punch a hole through somewhere? If so, where is it safest to do this? I don't really want to drill near the PCM on the passenger's side, but the driver's side is already loaded up with the OEM harnesses, etc., so drilling there doesn't seem safe either.

Any thoughts appreciated!

There used to be photos of this floating around but they are no longer in the FAQ for some reason.
Depends on if you have an auto or manual. For autos there is an unused tear shaped grommet located next to the brake master cylinder. For manuals there are two grommets located under the drivers side wiper cowling. Pull off the drivers side wiper arm and remove the plastic cowling. Your wire will pass right through there using both grommets.

Carpe - Thanks man! I searched all over the place and never found the thread that you put in the link. I guess "penetration" is probably not the best search keyword.
