I'm looking at a '99 Mystique w/115k on it and they said that there's a bad engine mount. How hard would this be to replace? Is it a rather common problem or what? Could it mean other problems(possible wrecks?)?

That is correct. There is only one engine mount. There is one transmission and two roll restrictors.

The tranny mount and the roll restrictors are available aftermarket (manufactured by Pioneer). I have not yet located an aftermarket engine mount for either Contour engine.

At 115K miles, I wouldn't be surprised if any of them, particularly the fore and aft restrictors, are toast.

Yeah, they didnt seem too sure about it ATM. They just got it into the dealership. Would it be hard to repair these roll resistors and/or tranny/engine mounts? Do you have to pull the engine?
How about this scenario:
If you were looking for a budget car and a '99 Mystique w/115k miles was for sale for $2k with possible motor mounts/roll resistors needing replaced(otherwise good), would you get it?

Would it be a rather "simple" fix? My dad & uncles know some things about cars and probably could pull the engine fine. Could get help off these boards for these fixes, I'm guessing.

PS: A little off-topic, but does anyone know if folding rear seats were standard for the 99 Mystique LS?

" Would it be hard to repair these roll resistors and/or tranny/engine mounts?"
It is not easy but a few of us have done it in the driveway (hands up!)

"Do you have to pull the engine?" No, no, no, no, no.

In a heartbeat.

"Would it be a rather "simple" fix? My dad & uncles know some things about cars ....."
For them, it should be.

"Could get help off these boards for these fixes, I'm guessing."
Don't need to guess. I think I posted the how tos from the Ford CDs previously.

Ok - well I asked them about it and they said when they put it in gear and such the motor is just moving way too much. Would you guys risk driving this 40-50miles? They said they were having test drives, so it must be driving.

EDIT: I just got the carfax and it says it was registered as a rental for the first year of ownership, then was attained by a dealership for 2 days in '00 with no records after '00.. What could this mean?

Would you still get this after knowing it was a rental?

It is hard to say.

Sure but I would knock $500 off the price. Note that Ford owned a big share of Hertz Rental Cars until maybe 2 or 3 years ago. So quite a few Fords were rental cars at some time or another.

Actually - I just double checked and it showed that when the second owner bought it(after it being a rental) there was only 10,000 miles on it, so being a rental shouldnt ahve affected it that much, should it?

I asked someone about it and they said all they had to do was get something to hold the engine up while doing it without pulling - is this the same? Where can you get the engine mounts? I'm guessing they wouldnt be that easy to find anymore...

Also, like I said before - what does it mean if there's been no records after '00? What would that signify?

This is hard to say. Most people don't take care of rentals.

Read the link and link inside the link for all the answers to this paragraph.

"Also, like I said before - what does it mean if there's been no records after '00? What would that signify?"
Someone else needs to answer this.
