F the police

how do you know that is the case? He may have been genuinely annoyed by your exhaust, he may have been in a bad mood, you may have fit the profile of what he considers a trouble maker, or he may just feel like enforcing those ordinances are important. A pillar gauge pod is a very unlikely reason for an officer to have pulled you over.

You would think that the cops would have "proper criminals" to keep them occupied, instead of smacking a motorists wrist for having a non standard exhaust, but that might be a bit too much like real work, wouldnt you say?

what exactly makes someone a "proper criminal"? First off, most of police work is order maintenance, not crime control. Second off, a crime is a crime, no matter how important you think it is. People should just feel lucky every time they get a warning or a cop lets them get off. A cop technically SHOULD ticket you for every offense, arrest for every offense they can arrest someone for, and so on and so forth. You should be thankful that police utilize their discretion and DONT always ticket or arrest.

After I first got my new car, I got pulled over twice in a month or so. Each time they pulled me over, they weren't the nicest people on the planet but after they ran my record and I explained to them I just got the car from another state, they told me what I had to do. I made a little bs with them, taking an interest with them as to exactly what I would need to have done blah blah blah....and they lightened up a lot and let me go.

Peoples attitudes towards police probably have the largest effect on how they are treated by said police. I am always courteous to police and as a result I have only gotten 2 tickets in my life. I have gotten stopped plenty though.

same here. i've been pulled over many times for what i suspect was the police profiling the type of vehicle i was driving. but when they realize i wasn't some douchey punk kid, they were fine.

+1

I'm employed by the town, and I drove the SVT to work one time and was stopped for not having a front plate on the car. When I rolled down the window, and he saw me dressed up for work and with my town work badge, he let me go with nothing but a verbal warning. He started with a little attitude at first but just act like a civilized adult and they appreciate that. Talk like an idiot and have the music blasting when they walk up to the window, you might as well get your check book out.

Show respect and you'll get it right back.

profiling?

I think they realized you weren't a douchey punk kid before they pulled over the lesabre...

Couldn't agree more. A long time ago, just out of high school, I bought a '69 Mustang. I couldn't drive anywhere for awhile without having some cop on my ass just waiting for me to speed. It didnt really bother me because I realize I did fit their "profile" and the car was loud enough to be an attention getter. After a few months, when the police realized I didnt drive like a dick, I pretty much got treated like any other driver.

I have no sympathy for people with loud cars that get tickets. Draw attention to yourself and what do you expect? Just be thankful you didn't also get ticketed for having no cats or from the glare coming from your illegal hid headlights.

Having said that, there is by far a bigger problem with excessive noise from trucks and motorcycles in my area than cars. I'm so tired of hearing these yuppie douches on straight piped Harleys. We get it already, you're an accountant - but with "attitude". Same goes for the pricks driving jacked up turbo diesel trucks with 5" exhausts. I wish the cops would start targetting these types of vehicles more.

I couldn't agree more with you on that. It is stupid the amount of trucks and motorcycles around here that have straight pipes on them. I never see one of them pulled over though.

My only gripes with the police in my area, State Troopers or Town Cops...they all seem to have no concept of doing the speed limit or using turn signals.

but cops are trained professionals! they don't have to follow the rules at all. or not be talking on the phone wile driving, when pulling someone over for the same thing. lol!

ugh...even most stock harleys are too loud. nothing like one ripping down your block at 3AM at full throttle.

You know what I've discovered, there seems to be very few happy medium P.O.'s out there. They either nail for any little thing or don't give a crap about anything.

For example, one of our neighbors had some items stolen, cop said I don't know why you bothered filing a report, we aren't going to recover any of this. Which translates to me, I don't give a crap about what happens around here. So a few weeks later when my snowblower turns up missing I didn't even bother calling. Granted, I may have gotten a very good officer, and I know there are some out there.

BTW I have the utmost respect for police as my Grandfather was a Sergent for the Des Moines PD and an Honor Guard for Pres. Truman (I think it was Truman) and he did right by people. There's a story associated with that, but it's for another time.

It's amazing riding with them while they drink a few buds and drive like mad men on the free way going 120+ :nonono: (obviously i had no idea that they were going to start drinking in the trail blazer)

Then you read in the paper a week later that they are honored in your city because they arrested a bank robber and his high speed driving skills is what caught the man.

Irony at best

all i'm saying is they should have to follow the rules when not on "official police business"

not trying to take anything away from the police or what they do, but you can't argue some abuse their privileges.

they are actually supposed to follow all traffic laws unless they are on a call/run. even then there are certain stipulations as to what they can and cannot do depending on what type of run it is. Do they actually do that? of course not, but who is going to pull them over? certainly not another officer.
