I plan on replacing both my fan motors this weekend and needed to gather any info i could. im either gonna buy a svt set or get some from the local Jy. any tips on knowing the good from the bad and what wouldnt or would work would be appreciated! thanks..

just to take a step back here, what makes you think theres something wrong with your fans? I've been around here for many years and have yet to hear an issue with the fan motors themselves burning out and I use to use these motors for my battlebots so I know first hand how hard you have to beat the piss out of these things to burn them out and I just don't see that happening at 12V.

radiator cooling fans right:shrug: yep they have problems ;even a recall for seizing up and not working. I would not use a junk yard cooling fan for this reason. I got mine from Keystone auto parts but Dorman also makes one . the one (secret ) I found when doing mine was to remove the drivers side engine hook from the front of the engine

ahhh, well my apologies, just wanted to make sure you were on the right track.

if you want to test a fan assembly, chop off the wiring pigtail for one of the motors and hook it up to a battery (these motors will handle anything under 30v before they start to burn up, so a drill battery will work nicely).

pulling the motors themselves out of the shroud is a bit of a pain as the 10mm bolts are difficult to access when the fan blades are still attached...
