Fill up Woes??

On one of our 98 SVT's when ever it needs gas it takes like forever to fill it up as it likes to kick the nozzle off as if it's full. Has anyone else had this problem? Not sure where to check the filler tube looks normal under the cap.
 
that is a pretty common thing.

try pulling the handle out alittle

lift and pull to the side as you fill

don't hold it on all of the way
 
Well what's odd about it is that I don't have this problem with the Mystique at the same station with the same pump. Also pulling out slightly and/or twisting the handle does not help. It is almost like the filler tube is restricted or something.
 
There was a TSB or recall for this some time ago. I think the solution was a new flap.

It's posted in here somewhere or you could give Bill Jenkins a call.
 
Yep. My 98 SVT does it once in a while. Only in warmer. I'm guessing the the colder weather contracts the flapper enough. Not enough of an issue to pull the tank and put in a revised flap.
 
My Mystique does it all the time now...cold weather.
The pulling/turning technique used to work but not anymore.
I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the vent, not the flap (if there even is a flap)
 
I occasionally have this issue, depends on the temperature, either way I usually put the pump on the first locking setting, supposedly (according to a fellow ceg'er) the slower you pump your gas, the better value for money you get from it, something about how you get more of the fumes or something in your tank.

Either way, it only takes like 1 minute longer to pump my gas, whop de fawkin' doo.
 
If this is happening to you ALL of the time, look into the replacement flap, it's inside the fill tube. I had to get one a few years ago, the fill it at an angle/pull out the nozzle part way/wire in the tube "cures" all stopped helping.

You are lucky. The problem I'm having does not even allow the pump lever to get to the first locking setting. It clicks off with even slight pressure on the trigger. The gasoline backs up in the fill pipe as if the air in the tank is not being displaced fast enough.

Yes, That is exactly what's happening to my car. It's a PITA to fill it up.
