The 626 shared a platform with the Probe and MX-6. The engine, transmission, and most parts will change out easily between those 3 vehicles (plus the Millenia), but the Probe/626/MX-6 and the Contour/Mystique engines are not related.
The transmission on the Probe/626/MX-6 V6 is technically the same as the Contour internally, but the housing is different, and the 626 used rods to shift instead of cables.

After the 98+ year 626's you're kinda boned on parts that interchange other than suspension with the probe and mx6. The engines in the 98+ use a klg4 engine instead of the kl03 and also have dis ignition. And the engine lacks the forged crank of the previous kl engines. But I do believe you can use the g25m(r) transmission from pgt/626/mx3/mx6. I believe all of those have lightly different gearing also, mx3 being the most different.

Not that I've heard. Only comes in the supercharged 2.3 is a miller cycle and atx. Kind of a turd motor I've always heard. A nicely equiped ze or a strong de would run much harder. Especially on some boost.
