Ford to bring Mondeo to USA?

I'll wait till they allow us to put the MKII legally on the road. Not really interested in newer Mondeos.

It's a beautiful vehicle, but too similar to the Mazda6 for me. (Not that that's a bad thing, the 6 is my top choice for a new car.)
 
After extensive import fees, modifications to allow for our legal crash tests, smog/emissions, and bumper/headlight height from the road, you'd be in for the cost of about TWO MKII's (or more!!) when NEW, PLUS freight.
 
That's the trouble with cars these days, not just Fords, but they're too damn expensive. Who wants to pay $25,000 for a sedan and $30,000+ for a truck?

To answer that question just look at the guy next to you in traffic. If the buying public could break out of their brainwashed life style and quit buying over priced cars and trucks the prices would come down, the law of supply and demand.
 
There's a reason cars cost more these days. Because everything else does too. I'd rather have expensive cars and cheaper houses. Considering how much cars improve each model, they are a good price for what you get. Compare a $15K car from early 90s with a $15K car today and you'll wonder why the new one is only $15K. New features, better equipment, better reliability, better construction (usually) and more safety features all add to the bottom line. Alot of cars are genuine bargains these days (look at any new Hyundai)
 
I don't think Ford Motor Company is in the position to bring the Mondeo or any other limited interest car to the US right now. If you haven't heard, they are fighting for their very survival. The last I heard, FoMoCo has slipped to being the #4 carmaker in the US, a position once held by American Motors. Other than the Fusion and the Mustang, Ford's products aren't selling well. If I was looking at new cars (and I will be shortly), I'd definitely be wary of buying a Ford product, because I don't want to be stuck with an orphan. Talk about resale value hitting bottom! If Ford still exists in five years, I'm expecting it to be only as a result of a buyout by an Asian manufacturer. And before you rag on me, I've been driving Fords for 40 years!
 
I'll make the prediction that Ford will pull out their funk and come back very strong.

The biggest problem with Ford at the moment is that they are still recovering form the effects of Jac "the knife" Nasser. He ran the company nearly to the ground, and it hasn't recovered yet.

Ford has been behind before. They nearly went out of business when Henry didn't want to admit that people could ever want anything other that a Model T. When Henry II took over he had a real mess. He got rid of the goon squad leader, Harry Bennett. Bennett had done a lot to nearly destroy the company. Then Henry II hired outsiders to fix his problems, the whix kids. The whix kids were a group of pentagon officers during WW II that decided to stick together after the war and collectively sent their resumes around. Henry II hired them, and they turned the company around.

There are other examples in Ford's history as well.

So far, the guy from Boeing makes a lot of sense. He may very well be the instrument to get Ford back on track.

In my opinion, part of Ford's problem today is that they have retrenched too far.abandoning market share as they went. The new guy seems to have recognized that, and is opening eyes as to what products they really should have.

This is going to be an interesting ride.

In the meantime, I moved onto something else. I'm getting a lot of business because the aerospace industry is booming, to a large share due to a guy from Boeing that turned Boeing around and really should have been promoted to lead them. He did it by having the right product to capture market share.

He just might be able to do it again. I think he will.
 
if they bring that over here and the exterior does not change in appearance - I will buy one.

I personally think the Fusion is too boxy and kinda ugly... the Mondeo on the otherhand is really sharp and I think it looks different enough from any Mazda product out there.

I'm a blue oval girl and unfortunately for the past couple of years the only real product that I've really liked and wanted to purchase perhaps would be the new mustang...

Mercury has the Milan which is very nice but again they need to offer that 3L with a MTX option...

I cant say anything bad about the Mazda 6 other than they should just make the Speed version standard.... and make the 3 Speed version available to the sedan and not just that hatch version.

I'm not even going to evaluate the other sister branches as I feel I personally cant afford them :(

I agree... its a georgeous car and definately could be on par for direct comparison against the BWM and Acura competition.... if the new Mondeo was parked next to it the car would hold its own, unlike the Ford Fusion and whatnot which just looks hella cheap and in the economy line-up of vehicles

I think the Mondeo would get new consumers to purchase as well us older blue oval fans who like our "poor mans BMW" so much that we are just waiting for another vehicle like it to come out.

Thanks for that Jim, and I agree - Or at least I'm hopeful.

As for the Mondeo, making that a world beater would bring into more prominant play economies of scale. Price for the car would go down world wide because materials/parts cost could be reduced in some cases. For a long time corporate survival has been all about sharing parts across platforms to reduce costs for R&D, and manufacturing/subcontracting. The next step is to build a car that requires little/no modification to be sold anywhere.
 
This may go against how the brands are setup, but what if the Mondeo was brought over as a Mercury? It would give a bosst to the brands image, and wasnt mercury supposed to compete with the foreign auto's? Im not sure Ford could support the Fusion and the Mondeo in the US, for Mercury it could replace the Milan. If they could bring that car to the US in a similar price range to the Fusion it would keep me out of a 3 series!
 
No, Merkur was supposed to compete with foriegn autos, becase they were...well...foreign autos. Mercury is the Buick of Ford. More upscale than Ford, not as swanky as Lincoln. Too bad Ford isn't as good as GM at making that philosophy work. IMO, if they brought it over as a Merc, it would wind up being neutered to the point of no longer being a fun car to drive. Keep it a Ford, and start shuffling the rest of the product line to accomodate it. :D
