Hello there, I've been having issues with my 3.0 swap! I'm in York, Pa. My car is a 1998 contour SVT with around 140,000 on it. After the 2.5 gave up, I opted for a used motor for the swap. (2001 Taurus vin "s"). The car is at a shop that does tuning and has a dyno. I figured what could go wrong? So after the motor was put in, I drove it for about a week and a half... the second time the car has left me stranded. I took the car back to the shop and they decided to warranty the used motor (60,000 miles on block) The junkyard they work with supplied another block with lower miles on it (35,000). I've had the car for a week and I started hearing the noises under the hood that I heard moments before the last one's bearings had excrement happen.:nonono: The car is back at the shop again, and this time the shop owner wants me to find someone to supply a fuel rail for this car. As he thinks that may be the weak link in our set up. It is a factory motor with factory electronics, should've been a fairly easy set up, but he has not done this particular swap before (contours) And he doesn't want to have motor #3 go bad. Since then we (wife and I have purchased a newer car and has less issues. After we get the contour fixed more than likely the car will be sold as we have little money and the 4,000 we have in the purchase of the contour and the 4,000 plus we have in repairs have left a sour taste in the wife's mouth. Call me whooped, but I gotta live with this woman and our child for the rest of my life. So... if there is anyone that can give me a hand, it would greatly be appreciated. My name is Jeff Potter. My email is mrupholsteryman@aol.com or mrupholsteryman@yahoo.com
Either one works. I will usually check my mail once a week or so. Thank you for your help in this matter. Jeff:help:

need more details on the swap. straight 3L, hybrid, etc ...

if you went the hybrid route, ie keeping the 2.5 heads and everything above them then the stock fuel rail is fine.

search the 3L forum and get some better bearings ...

Welcome Jeff!

I sent you an email.

What a deal. :)

You are always looking for something Ian. One day you will find it.

 :D

It is a 2001 Taurus 3.0 block with all that it came with from the junkyard. There are no 2.5 parts on it.

Yes it has a customized fuel rail. He feels that given the track record of two motors in less than a months worth of driving time. Maybe someone who does these swaps all the time take a look at it. He doesn't want to have strike three hanging over his head. Nor does he want a potential car fire with a toddler in the car. (my kid) Any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks to all of you! Have a great weekend if I don't talk to you before then! Jeff

umm pressure test the rail. i dont see why that would be the problem. only thing i can think of is to slowly replace everything that could be wrong. but then agian that eats up time and money so it comes down to how far you want to go with it.

you could wait for joey's custom LIM that will make 3l swaps just pretty much plug and play. but who knows when that will be finished.

The writing is pretty much on the wall for this car. My wife said as soon as the car is fixed (if it happens...) it's going to car max or something. We have to pay for the new(used) car that has replaced the csvt:cry:. The last thing I need is another "I told you so" from my wife who is already winning in the "I told you so" contest. So maybe you guys can tell me how much I should ask for it. I know that I won't be able to recoup much. But it will come with an Alpine MP3/cd player with 6 disc changer and some custom buildouts that house 2 tweets and 2 4 1/4's in each kick panel. I don't have grills for them yet, and they aren't covered in a correct matching carpet yet, but the hard part is done. The car is a silver one with a few dents on the roof from the in-laws' neighbor's tree branch that broke and fell on it. And the back bumper has some paint rubbed off from the last time my car gave up, a fellow motorist offered to push me with his work van a good 3 miles to the next exit so I could get my car off of 83 south. Sounds like a good catch so far, don't it?  I had dreams of fixing the car, but I'm having to wake up from my pipe dream. The car is sitting at Automotive Passions in York, PA if anyone wants to take a look-see. Oh the car also will come with the alarm system too. (Excalibur) (have both remotes). Let me know how much I should ask for this car, running or not running.... Have a great rest of your weekend!

Jeff

Car is running again!

Car is running again!

Well, the shop put the car back together again and so far no probs...except for CEL. He said it is running a bit lean and a tune would help it, but my wife wants to be done with it. Any takers?_______?
Let me know.... sad to see the SVT go, but I got to keep the wife happy, ya' know. Jeff

What CEL code?

Sorry to hear that you need to get rid of the SVT.

^ Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.

AutoZone can read the codes for free. We need the code number to help you. AutoZone guys like to tell you what the issue is and they are usually wrong, so just get the code number from them.

I went to the AutoZone and they told me I needed a new Mass Air sensor after doing the free check and that my check engine light would go out between 150 and 200 miles after installing it. I did purchase it and the light is still on as of 20 some miles later. I only drive the car maybe 2 days out of the week. If I didn't have my brother and nieces birthday today I would probably have gone to the show to advertise the car for sale. Have a great weekend all!
Jeff:cool:

P0174 AND P0171 I believe is what the codes were. He said that with those codes going on at the same time, that it would likely be the mass air sensor. As the codes are for the front and rear o2 sensors. He reset the codes so the light turned off, but it might turn back on the next day I drive it:shrug: . The funny thing is, I drove the car to car max in White Marsh.... big mistake:mad: After 1/2 hour of waiting for the estimator to go over my car. He gave me an insulting price of $250.00 for my car. Everything works except for the a/c which I didn't care about cuz I was supposed to just unload the car. So after spending $8,000.00 plus on a car that we can only get $250.00 for... the wife might just let me keep it:shocked: . So it may just get the ultimate makeover when I reach my midlife crisis at the age of 75 or so....  . Stay tuned. ( That sounds like a motto for my car.... Stay TUNEd. I had to put that in there. Have a great day.
Jeff
