I was cleaning my UIM/LIM the other day. i also changed all the gaskets for them. And now it smells a lot. Especially when I turn on the heat, the smell comes in the cabin from the heat vents. Is that normal, or should I open my manifolds again and double check it?

The injectors: can these be partially insirted in the LIM?? Or would the car not work at all if they are not well installed? It took me some effort to unplug them from the manifold, but then they pluged in too easy. And were coming off easy after that as well. I aslo could barely see the green O-ring sticking out a little...in other words, the injectos would not go all the way in. is that ok??

guys, can the injectors be partially in the manifold, therefore leaking gas fumes? it seems like it smells from near the timing chain. anyone?

If any of the injectors are not properly installed, you will get misfire codes. I would check the fuel lines for leaks first.

Tony, how easy is for the fuel rail to break? I had problem with instlling the injectors and had to tap the rail a little. could that be a problem? I will pull the UIM tomorrow and replace the o-rings. but it really smells:((
any other suggestions are appreciated.

and if i pull the UIM and turn the ignition ket to ON, would that make pressure in the fuel system? if it does, can that help me trouble shoot which injector is leaking?
and do i need a new uim gasket? i have only drove the car for about 100miles with the new gaskets.

You have to "rail" on the fuel rails for it to break (pardon the pun).

... I had problem with instlling the injectors and had to tap the rail a little. could that be a problem? ....
The injectors are a different story but as I posted earlier, you should get a misfire code if there is an issue with the injectors.

....and if i pull the UIM and turn the ignition ket to ON, would that make pressure in the fuel system? if it does, can that help me trouble shoot which injector is leaking?....
Not sure. But I would guess that it would cause it to have less pressure.

...

No.

Is the CEL on? Wait for it to come on and then scan and post the exact codes. Don't erase them yet.

No. No Cel codes yet. But it smells awfull. I jst got off work and will go to my friend's garage to take her apart again. I got new o-rings just in case. I really need some way of strating the engine up (or the fuel pump at least) while the UIM is out. That way, I will be able to see where exactly gas is leaking from. Car doesn't have any loss of power. just sticks like hell. Thank god I am not a smoker!!:)

Ok, Tony, I took out the injectors. On 2 of the injectors, the lower O-rings were torn. Which I will replace. But should I replace all 12 O-rings or just the once that are broken? The bad things is that on one of the injectors, the lower plastic ring that holds the O-ring is broken. Some of it I can see, had fallen in the head and stays on the top of the valve, and I will try to take it out. But do I need a new injector or can I use the same one? If so, should I leave the remaining restrtive plastic ring in on the injector, or get rid of it? And if i get rid of it, will the new o-ring stay in place without falling into the head??? i dunno what to do, coz it's already 8pm and no one has these in stock:(((

"But should I replace all 12 O-rings or just the once that are broken?"
I would change all of them if there are already out.

"The bad things is that on one of the injectors, the lower plastic ring that holds the O-ring is broken. Some of it I can see, had fallen in the head and stays on the top of the valve, and I will try to take it out."
You have to remove them. Vacuum it out or whatever.

"But do I need a new injector or can I use the same one?"
You can use the same injector if you can get a plastic ring replacment.

"If so, should I leave the remaining restrtive plastic ring in on the injector, or get rid of it?"
Get rid of it so that it does not fall down.

"And if i get rid of it, will the new o-ring stay in place without falling into the head???"
Probably. Don't put the new old ring in. You will get a misfire code and a rich or lean code. But live with it for a day until you can get the new injector plastic ring or new injector.

Tony. Thanks for the help. As usual, you were there to help.

I got the car done. No smell!!! I changed 10 o-rings, and did not mess with the two which were on the broken injectors (turned out I had 2 cracked).
Where can I get these plastic ring retainers from??

For anyone doing this anytime soon for the first time -- it is a very good idea to oil all o-rings before installing them. they will slide right in, like butter.

Thanks again, Tony.
