do any of you know if the little "dark/black" gear ring on the bottom of the differential is supposed to have any play? i have an old diff that its gear ring is super solid and still, and another that is sort of loose. it doesn't spin but has a play.

anyone? hellloo?
ok. at least, do you guys know what is that little gear like ring? it doesn't seem to make contact with other gear rings in the tranny. is it to move oil around the tranny?

The 'gear ring' on the diff drives the speedo pinion..2 pics may help the masses(the pinion that the 'gear ring' drives is green!!!)

...should be Tight on the diff. Chances are that if it's loose it is cracked, the plastic Has a tendancy to become brittle over many years in the oil....
