I never understood why Top Gear rags on Hondas so much -- they say that they are poor quality, and laud VWs as high quality. And all the Hondas do is last a long time with minimal maintenance and the VWs eat electrical parts almost monthly. I think they're more than a little biased on that show (shocking, I know).
When Honda got to Canada, they were truly not prepared for salted roads. As a result, a lot of the older ones rotted almost instantly. Honda used to give their employees cards, saying "We'll fix this for you, call....." so that they could put them on any Honda they saw rotting. They didn't have to do that -- in my mind, it was a very classy move.
My problems with Hondas are simple -- they don't make anything that I am comfortable in (damn you, snack foods!!) and the modded Honda has been done to death. Aside from that, they are excellent daily drivers.
I would consider a 2007 V6 Accord -- with a stick, of course -- as my next car quite seriously.
