Help designing sound system

So I am building a system and I had an idea. Im going to run a 4 channel amp controlling the front speakers and the sub. Im set on the Infinity Kappa speakers, and Steelblue posted 2 kinds. One, a standard pair STANDARD SPEAKERS and some that were a little higher up HIGHER UP SPEAKERS

The higher up pair have a little more kick, so id like to run those off of the amp, but would there be a problem if I ran these in the front and the standard pair of Kappas in the rear, running off of the HU?

Id save a little money and I dont think I would be compromising SQ very much. Can this be done?

I think it would be possible to do that... um i think i'm coming in here late but there are some good 5 channel amps i think jl has a few... they can be run like 2/2/sub or other setups too... make sure you can have a lowpass filter on the sub so it doesnt sound like crap i dont think you can use one on the amp cause you'll be using both the speakers and sub off that if you decide to use a 4channel to power the front and sub. if you get a 5 channel it probably works fine

OP is going with a 4ch because it is far more budget friendly. Most 4 ch's have 2 sets of gain/crossover settings so he should be able to use a low pass. It'd probably be really hard to find on a cheaper 4 ch, but he would also benefit from a subsonic filter for the sub channel. This helps protect the sub from unloading at frequencies below tuning in a ported setup. Without a subsonic, tuning the box low (<30hz) helps minimize this.

Just throwing my opinion out there... You might want to just skip on the rear speakers for now, unless you're concerned about people in the rear seat. From the front you more than likely wont even hear them, especially if they are running of the HU and your fronts are running off the amp. You can always add them later.

that's kinda true my back right speaker has been out for the longest time... it doesnt bother me much... the right side sounds a bit louder. but not much.. people in the back complain sometimes though

Kevin, I did that for a while, used 2 channels for front doors, bridged rear 2 channels for sub, and ran back doors off HU. Still sounded much better that w/o amp. I'm not on as much, so if you want to get a hold of me, call my cell. Doing my system in the Dutchman over Easter Break.

Thats what I am planning on doing. And dont give me that crap about not on much. Just because you don't have the SVT you better still come on here you bum :D

Still got the same #?

Yes. (412) 974-9442.

I am still on CEG, that will never change. But I am splitting my time between here and the Mazda3 forums. So much to learn about turbos in general, and the Dutchman in paricular.

Bought an Alpine MRP-F300 4 channel amp today. Ill be running the front speakers and bridging the sub.

I am doing some fiberglass this weekend for an place for the amp (behind back seat) but I think ill wait until I have all the other components before I install it. Do it all at once.

Nice amp. Might as well do it all at once, since you'll be running wires everywhere. Don't want to have to move the amp rack more than you need.

I already have all the wires in place from my current amp setup (ill just need to re-route the read door speaker wires since those will be powered by the HU)

Should be a pretty straight forward install, its just the adjustments on the amp to make everything sound good that Im worried about.

Its a nice amp, thats what I have. If you paid over 160 in total, you got ripped off fyi. I got ABC warehouse to match the lowest online price for mine because I didnt wanna have to wait for it to be shipped haha, paid 155 out the door for mine. They normally sticker at 200 at most retailers.

Make sure to mount it to something solid, like a piece of wood thats secured in. Don't screw it to your box or let it lay loose. If you mount it under the seat, do not ground to the seat bolts.

I paid $141 shipped from amazon, the prices were all over the place and I that was the cheapest place I found.

I plan on mounting it on a wooden board that is mounted behind the back seats (facing the rear if the car if that makes sense) in the same location that my current amp is.

Just bought 4 Infinity KAPPA 6829CF from Car Audio Deals.

At first I was only going to buy a set for the front speakers being run off of the amp and pick up a cheaper set for the rear, but i figured what the hell and bought 4 of these bad boys.

Now all thats left is the sub. Getting excited for this to come together!

One question, I did some research but I just want to make sure with the experts but will I have any problems powering two of those speakers with my HU? It seems like a dumb question, and its a little late since i already bought them, but im a noob lol.

It shouldn't be a problem. I ran mine off the h/u for about 5 years before putting an amp on them.

So im looking at bass knobs and I see that a lot of them are brand specific. Do I need to have a compatible amp/HU or can I just buy a generic knob and wire it through the RCA cables.

Thanks for all of your help guys. I had a lot of unanswered questions and everyone has been so helpful in making this all come together. I appreciate it all! :)

That amp isn't compatible with an oem remote. Most amps that are, will have an rj-11 phone style connector or a lan/networking style connector that the remote goes into. I think there are some bass knobs that are generics that might work by adjusting the rca signal like you mentioned. Post a link if you're looking at a certain product. Honestly when I had a remote on my old crunch amp, I'd only use it around cops and going into bad neighborhoods. Now I just use the volume on the h/u. If you do go with a remote/knob, mount it on the plastic trim piece that goes around the h/u and mount it up underneath in the back by where the cupholders are so no one can see it. It only takes about 5 screws to remove the panel and you have to move the shifter to n or d if its an atx and move the steering wheel up or down, it only takes a few mins to remove.

That should work, if the cables are long enough, you might not need a short jumper and just run that to the h/u then output from that to the amp.
