HID bulb differences

Go over to bimmerforum.com and check out the DDM threads. I think the guy's name is John if I remember correctly. He stays very involved and gives a lot of updates on the company. Sounds like a good guy to work with, which is why I gave them a shot. According to him, the $39.95 kit that I just bought will get as low as $17 when they start producing them in the states. Pretty crazy!

Thanks, Mark. I'll check it out. I'm thinking about going with the 55watt kit instead of the 35w, it's only $15 more:shrug:

They also recommend that you get the harness when you go with the 55w kit. I think the harness is $20. Just make sure that you understand what they state on the site, that you'll lose a lot of color(if that's what you're going for) due to the brightness of the higher wattage kit. I went with the 4500k, so there's not really a lot of color as it is.

What kit did you go with? I'm thinking about just going with the 35w 4500K Raptors myself. I was gonna go with the 55w kit but didn't want to run the risk of blinding people with my reflector housing. I called a couple days and they were out of stock, but should have some in by now. Did u go with the harness?

this is starting to sounds more and more interesting. so what would we order, the 9006 or what ever the low beam is, kit? I would also go with the 35w 4500k kit also.

Yeah, I was reading that. I originally wanted just a little blue so I think I'll go with the 55w 6k kit. I mainly want it to so I can actually see better at night. It looking cool too is just a bonus in my opinion. I want to order them now, but I'm telling myself to wait till spring, when I actually am driving the car.

I went with the 35w 4500K Raptors. I didn't get the harness as they say that you don't need it unless going up to the 55w. I'll let you know, whenever I get them. I haven't gotten a confirmation email that they've been shipped yet.

Doubtful. I know I'm still new to this, but according to Tony's post above, you have to ask the seller specifically if they will sell a kit with rebased bulbs. And according to Tony, since a D2R bulb isn't going to effect the light output in a standard(non-HID) reflector housing. I would assume that the 9006 kits come with the standard 9006 HID bulbs. I would contact them, as they seem very customer oriented from what I've seen.

Mark

Do you know if DDM's 9006 kit uses a rebased D2R bulb?

As Mark stated I'm sure its just the 9006 bulbs. I gave them a call to check availability but didn't ask that question because it was stated that it doesn't really matter. I'm sure they won't have an issue answering that question

I bought my kit from VVME last year. They seem to be doing fine and just keep dropping the price. Just go with the standard 9006 kit(non-d2R), im runnning 4300K now. I was running 6000k but they look like complete s*** in rain or snow(i sometimes questioned if they were even on at those times)

HID's run on a balast system to maintain them properly. The bulbs come with 2 connection harnesses. One, connects the stock connector to the Balast(metal box). Then there is a wire off of the box that connects to the HID bulb.

The first part of your post is something everyone needs to read because too many people out there are running above 6K and they just look stupid as hell:nonono: I'm surprised the 6K didn't perfom that well in the rain or snow, but hey, that's why 4300K is OEM, it works:shrug:, LOL!

But Doodz, it doesn't looks az cool yo!!!!1

It's great that HIDs have come down so much in price and pretty much anyone can afford them now, but the downside, well pretty much anyone can afford them.

I've never seen more cars on the road with aftermarket HIDs than I have this year. Every single one is at least 6000k too. :nonono: I laugh when they're driving in the rain and there is barely any light showing on the ground.

add one more for now  I just ordered the 4500k DDM 9006 raptor kit. going to try it in the mystique. if I like it I will either move it to one of the other cars or just get two more kits, maybe the top end one DDM had ....

Damnit, I cant take it, I'm ordering mine tonight. I'll just say, "but, everyone else will have them, but me." That'll get her:laugh:

sure. when I get them I can also try them in my SVT to see how it works. but I figure since I am dd my mystique I would try the lights in it to see how I like them. also it will be nice as the aftermarket fog lamps I put in are way brighter then the low beams so hopefully this balances it off. I can't wait to see better at night

hell when these get to $18 it would be great for the fog lamps also.

from what I have read the good hid kits come with a nice harness for install. the harness would draw poer straight from the battery for the ballasts. the original factory headlight wiring is then plugged into the harness or the ballast directly and used as a signal to the ballast to turn the hid light on.

As a side note you can do this to the stock headlights as well and sometimes the difference is very noticeable. Both my mazdas were re-wired to use a relay from the battery and the voltage at the bulb jumped from 12.5 to 13.9-14.0 volts like it should have been. Of course not all cars have switches that drain that much power on the way back to the headlights.
