How bad is this damage

I just got this 99 SVT on eBay. I have to decide whether it will be worth having somebody repair the damage to the left rear or whether I should just part it out?

That would be lots of work, might be more work then its worth, but eh, I'm not a expert either.

I can tell you, your driver side taillight seems to have ~2 inches of water in it ;)
 
tom,i'm going to say at this point in the game,you can buy a good condition svt for about the same as fixing that one,your looking at having to replace that whole rear quarter,so cutting off two quarters,and welding in a new one,not to mention the body straigntening. than paint and all. do you know if the body is twisted as well? i'd bet your upwards of 3-4k(going off body shop quotes i had from four years ago when my car was in a hit in run in the rear quarter. it was 2400,and wasn't nearly that bad.) if i was you i'd part it and make your money back and than some(hopefully) or break even. maybe find a svt w/a shot engine or tranny and swap in your powertrain. part the rest. put the svt drivetrain in your car,and part the rest. you have alot of options. but i wouldnt go beyond entertaining the thought of fixing it,just my .2cents
 
I've got the parts. If the labor could run me under $2K, I'd go for it - but I fear you might be right. I'd like to fix it becuse although the car has 146K on it the engine and transmission are nearly new, with under 15K on them. And the interior looks pretty good.

I don't know how badly the body was twisted as a result of the impact though.
 
yeah,i know you have andy's parts car coming,though it doesnt have the fender you need(small fries compared to the rear end)i just don't see it coming out good for anywere near 2k. i just don't see it being worth the cost,and what happens when its finished and you don't like the way it looks?:blackeye: theres a tred/mnb up by albany for around 2200 that needs some quarter panel work, arizona car,113k. that would be a better investment. imho
 
Thats over a $2k repair in labor by a quality shop at standard rates.. Now if you can find a "non-quality" or pull some strings/strike a deal with someone to give you a better rate you might be able to do it. Body shops are usually slow this time of year and may need the work.
two quick questions.. Does the drivers side rear door not open and shut properly? Are there any creases in the roof near the top of the rear window? If so I'd say stick a fork in it, its done.
 
i wouldn't use that as the only determining factors. you need to get it on a rack to know for sure.
in paint alone,even the somewhat "low quality" guy you use your looking at 1k..in just paint work,fender,door,bumper,rear quarter and cpillar,not to mention its all going to have to be blended to look right.:shrug:
now,it would be a different situation if you could do all the work yourself,or get a great deal from a family member who owns a shop.
get it to a shop,get it on a rack. get some quotes and opinions from experts and go from there. but don't be surprised if we're right in saying its a 3-4k dollar job by a proper shop
 
Me and my parents own a body shop and I would say that 3-4k right there. If that were closer and I seen it that would have been a nice cheap project for me!

It's hard to say with out seeing the car in person to see how bad it really is but I'd say labor and paint yes. But who knows if the frame would need to be strighted who knows.

What did you pay for that car is you don't mind me asking? I would take it somewhere and see what they write it up for i'd be interested to know!
 
I paid $1022. I know I could get more than that if I parted it out. Plus, there are some parts I could use on my SE.

I never said to base it on that. Those are just two factors that would typically indicate to not even bother with repairs. Given the photos there is obvious pulling and likely sectioning that would have to be done. But like many have said before the only way to tell is to have it put on a rack to see just how badly its tweaked and what needs to be done. Remember, shops are usually looking for work now and may want to take the job on for a deal.

i work at a body shop and theres no reason to spray so many panels. all that is damaged is the quarter lower filler panel trunk floor you "blend" into the rear door and above the rear door on the c pillar. you dont spray the whole side of the car and then blend. those quarters are discontinuedso you would have to get one from a place like LQK where they give you a section of another car and you cut that one off and weld it to yours. trunk floor is discontinued as well as the filler panel but if you specify with the supplier, they cut where you need them to so you could get from the middle of the rear door to the trunk. i think we usually pay around 300 to 600 for a section.the money is in labor and frame straightening. it appears to need to be pulled. paint wise you would have to pay for cut-ins ie. jambs in the rear door and trunk, the rear quarter, and the bumper and trunk if you decided to repaint the trunk and you might get lucky if you find an svt rear bumper in silver frost. plus you pay for dismantle and reassemby and blend panels such as c pillar and rear door. if you have any questions just pm me

LOL. I didn't even notice that? Maybe it's not water - maybe its a backup of blinker fluid.
