How bad is this damage

another thing to consider tom is the title issue. was it totalled by the insurance company? if it has a salvage title you might want to look into ny states strict laws. to legally get it back on the road is a HUGE hassale. you have to provide reciepts for the NEW parts that were replaced. you have to tow it to the dmv inspection station up by albany for a scheduled inspection. the inspection alone costs 200 dollars. if they deem it unsafe,or it doesnt meet their standards, you can't register it,and your out all the money of fixing it,towing it,and the inspection process. just something to think about if the title is branded.

I think u paid too much for that car.....

I dunno.

Tires are brand new. The SVT rims are nice. Both headlights are brand new. Engine and tranny are nearly new (appx 10k miles on each). Front bumper is in great shape. Sideskirts are near perfect. Short throw shifter is nearly new. I think the pads and rotors are new. Interior is in good shape. Sunroof works well and is in good shape.

Plus, at the time, I needed a front fender and rear brake calipers.

Hell, I was willing to pay $100 (shipped) for a WRECKED rear SVT bumper and had a tough time finding any takers.

I looked into that. The title I will be getting is a clean clear title. Under NY law, because the car is more than 8 years old, the prior owner is not required to check the little box on the back of the title indicating that it sustained damage equal to or exceeding 75% of the pre-accident FMV.

I would not even consider fixing the car if it were to have a salvage / branded title.

Ive bought SVTs with blown/running motors and no body damage for less than you paid for yours Im just saying.

But this SVT has PERFECT motor/trans. Tom if you're willing to take your time with it and do a little at a time and not just dive into it all at once, I'd say start to fix it. And if you DO find a big snag, part it out. It is a huge bonus having such new motor/trans. But if you don't mind me asking, is it an SVT motor?

Personally, I don't think you got a bad deal. But I would NOT invest the money into fixing it only because who knows what other gremlins might be hiding in the form of suspension parts etc. The car obviously had a hard impact, and a visual inspection won't cure all. My suggestion, transfer whatever parts you need/want into your other car, then part out the remainder to rebound your costs. Resurecting an SVT is one thing, but going to the point where you could have bought a well taken care of one for equal value is a different story.

Suggestion 2, find a stock contour for under 1K (even if it's just a shell) and swap the parts over and make it the SVT. So you don't have an "official" SVT, you would have every part from the ground up.

I recently bought a second cougar, found out it would cost me more than I wanted to spend to be roadworthy. Parted it out, made $550 profit , then sold the empty shell to someone for $500 because it was fine and they recently got into an accident. They are now transfering all of their parts from their cougar, into the shell they bought from me. In total I made $1000 and had spare parts to boot.

I bought it because it had a nearly new engine and lots of good parts. If it had had a blown engine, I wouldn't have been interested.

Plus, SVTs are extremely are in upstate New York.

Have you paid less than a grand for a car with no damage that runs well and looks like this?

They are rare in general. I have the second nicest one in my area. I am second to a T-red and the others are all beat-up, or more so destroyed SilFro's. Even after my forced run in with a gaurd rail I have my area covered. And I do not mean all of lower NY, just the northern westchester (peekskill) area.

I know in Central NY, there is a CEGer in Oneonta, one in Saratoga, one in Cortland (me) and another in Rochester. I think that's about it.

Other than Chris's SVT, I have only seen two others in NY. I saw a different Silver Frost in Oneonta and another near Ithaca.

I don't think I've ever seen one for sale up here (other than the one I got on eBay).

When did you get that ? Do you still have it? I never saw it. I definitely would have picked that one up instead if I'd heard about it.

So paid less and asking 5 grand for it? Don't you think it is bad business to brag how little you pay for something and than ask a whole lot more for it? I'd say good luck getting the 5K.

What is the black box with the red and black wires running into it... ??

I would be more concerned with that live wire sticking off the battery from the previous stereo system  Did somebody steal that as well?
As for the black box, dont know.

Could you not just get the rear quarter off of any contour? I mean jesus I could take a battery powered saws-all and cut the huge peice of the quarter panel he would need right out from a junk yard. Tact the peice back into place, and 80% of the bent metal is replaced.

 Doesn't seem like it would be a huge problem to replace. Even the back end could come out of any contour. Just take the whole rear suspension frame and control arms and throw on some new rear struts.

It would still be work, but not impossible.

Its been in the classifieds for a month and I havent gotten any questions on it so I really dont care if I tell people what I got it for. Heck I can buy it for a dollar and if the KBB value of the car is 7k I can sell it for 6k and some people would see it as a deal. Besides CEG isnt the only place where people buy SVTs.
