So when I bought mine last year, I figured since it was an old 1998 4-door sedan, my insurance would drop a little. Not really. I still feel like I'm over-paying for car insurance and neither Allstate (my current insurance company) nor Geico (my previous insurance company) have had what I feel is an appropriate cost based on my age and driving history.

I'm 30-years-old, have had 0 tickets, 0 accidents, 0 points. Absolutely clean driving record. I have $316.65 worth of discounts every 6 months for Easy Pay Plan, Safe Driving Club, Responsible Payer, Mandatory Good Driver, About Me (??), Passive Restraint, Antilock brakes.

My insurance never dropped when I turned 25 (like you hear everyone talking about), and I just feel like based on the car I drive, driving history, age, etc. I'm paying a bit more than I should. For those who don't mind sharing, could you break-down your info like I did below?

Age: 30
Insurance Company: Allstate
Coverage Type: Full
Points: 0
Accidents: 0
Deductible: $250
Monthly Cost: $105.26

Car covered: 2000 SVT Contour
Age: 25
Coverage Type: Full
Points: None currently
Accidents: 0 that were my fault. went up due to an accident that I was in even though the other guys ins. paid for the damages.
Deductible: 500
Monthly Cost: 48.00

When I was a teenager, I was getting pulled over all of the time, 10 times total before I turned 20, but never exceeded 4 points.

$48?? What?!??!?!?!!??!? Who's your insurance company?? That's much less than I thought I should be paying at my age with no accidents (regardless of fault). Prior military?

a lot of it has to do with location. if your looking on geico, put in all the same info, but change the location. I just paid the insurance for my 99 cougar and it comes out to $38/month for full coverage and ive had somewhere around 17 tickets and a couple of accidents.

i was paying less than you when i was 16. the highest my insurance has ever been is $95/month

Age: 27
Car: 98 Contour SE Sport
Coverage: Full
Deductible: Ranges depending on what, collision is $200 whereas comprehensive is $100
Accidents: 4, one in 2008 (my fault) and last contour rear ended and totaled in 2012 (not my fault but living in a no-fault state so it doesn't really matter), and I've hit 2 deer, one in 2010, and another in 2011.
Points: Forgiven by now but I did have 3 around 2008
Cost per month: $121.66 ($5 less with auto bill pay)

The Contour WAS fully covered and all the deductibles were low since I can't afford to just up and buy a new car if someone else decides they don't need brakes. Now that I have the Focus coverage has gone way down to state minimum and I will pay a lot less, but I forget how much right now since it doesn't kick in for another 2 months. Focus right now with collision at $500 deductible and comp at the same is around $70/month, IIRC, and the Contour will probably be lower with the same. Not sure what I'm getting as far as discounts aside from the safety features of both cars.

EDIT: BTW I carry Comprehensive on all my vehicles because I live in a very rural area with many deer.

hmmmm

Also depends on how many vehicles you have on the same policy, married, kids, and home(s). This will be a pretty broad range of numbers people put up.

whoa, I have full coverage on 3 cars for $107 a month

98 CSVT $500 deductible w/ roadside assitance
2004 BWM 325XiT $500 deductible w/ rental and roadside assistance
2012 VW CC $100 deductible w/ rental and roadside assistance

$50,00/100,000 bodily injury, uninsured, underinsured
$50,000 property damage

Just the SVT is $124.23 for 6 months

A lot of your rate is driven by your coverage levels and zip code where you live. I am at 100/300/100 but am considering increasing it to 250/500/100. I am also in Central Illinois, just a short drive from State Farm headquarters.

99 CSVT
Age: 55
Insurance Company: Progressive, 3 other cars on the policy
Coverage Type: Bodily injury $100,000 EACH PERSON - $300,000 EACH ACCIDENT, PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY - $100,000 EACH ACCIDENT
EDIT: Comprehensive: None (read the wrong column, comp is on my 2008 Milan Premier, worth it, only 11,000 miles on this creampuff)
Collision: None, it's a 15 year old vehicle, no point in collision coverage.
Points: 0
Accidents: 0
Roadside assistance included.
6 Month Cost: $118, or $19.67 per month (I win...)

No military, I'm with Geico currently.

True, I'm married and own my own house. Plus have the car listed for 10-15K per year of driving.

If someone hits me without insurance, I want paid. Natural disaster? I want paid. I've dealt with a flood in my area already and didn't get to my car in time to save it. Didn't get a penny. Lost thousands. Plus, what will it save me? 5 bucks a month? big whoop.

Montana is one of the higher-cost insurance states, because we have a huge wildlife population, in addition to a HUGE population of uninsured motorists. It's perfectly legal for individuals who live on a reservation to not have insurance, as long as the vehicle stays on the reservation. However, everyone needs to come to a more metropolitan area every so often. There are a ton of people who live on a reservation, don't carry insurance, and just hope that they don't get in an accident or get or pulled over while they're off reservation property. It's very frustrating, because it makes our insurance rates much higher in the state. I was shocked at the difference in cost when I lived in Arkansas versus Montana.

I suppose we COULD take the two older cars off full coverage, but there are so many crazy things that can happen that I'm just happier knowing that we would be able to at least put a down payment on a replacement vehicle if we had a flash flood (like we did in 2011) or a freak hailstorm (like 2009 and 2011) or a windstorm (a huge tree branch fell on my house last summer during a microburst). The tree that fell on our roof fell directly on top of the spot where I wash, wax, and detail my car (we have a dirt driveway, so I pull it onto the grass).
