how much for a rebuild?

after not finding a local 2.5 with less than 90k i have decided to have my motor rebuilt.

now, i havent gotten any qoutes yet but what would be a logical price for the rebuild? one mechanic said he could do 2 mustang 5.0's in the time it to pull my engine... so im ready for big numbers im asuming $2000+....

so what should i be expecting shops to charge for a rebuild.

and by the way, the reason i am not doing a 3L is because i really dont have the knowledge to do it right now, i could try and i probably could do it but im leaving for UTI (automotive) in 1 month and i dont want to be carless, i want to get my csvt back on the road as soon as possible.
 
****, for 2 grand that you're ready to dish out you could drop the damn car off at stazi's and get HIM to put the 3 liter in.

Take a couple days off, rent a trailor take it to MI!
 
Is the Taurus in your sig your car? You won't be carless if so. Considering you're going to school for automotive technician, this will be a good (and fun) project that can help you decide if you like tearing apart cars.

It WAS his car. Now it's his sister.

And if I recall correctly... you said you weren't doing the 3 liter because your father is paying for it and he doesn't want a 3 liter in it. :shrug:

Also, do we know for sure that the engine is shot? Have you done any tests or are you just assuming?
 
If I can get ahold of my insurance company and find out if I can buy my car back, that engine has only 74k miles on it (pics to prove) and I just put full synthetic in it. I'll sell you it for a good price.
 
-my headlights barely put any light out theyre hazed so bad.
-a branch fell and made 4 nice dents in my trunk lid (also a huge dent in my rooF :()
-my shift knob's leather cover thing came off months ago.
-my hood has several dings/paint chips since i got it

thats roughly in the order im looking to replace them too, but most of it i couldn't afford/justify buying new so i wont be getting any unless i can find a parts car or somethin.

Lights are good, trunk is good, shift knob is good... hood is not so good.
 
wait wait, the BIG question has still not been answered here..

Has your car been DEFINETLY proven to have a busted engine? :confused:
 
everything is going to work out good here.

the car is going out to western mass, to Aircougar, he is doing the 3L swap, SCT tune, new clutch and flywheel!

there is like 1% of life left in the motor, my mechanic said that a rod was knocking but there was still life in it, so i tried the drive home (17 miles) and on my street the whole car started shaking and it sounded like i was riding a bmx bike with a baseball card in the spokes (you know you did that as a kid)

so it still starts but barely.

X2 .... not only will it be done quickly but it will be done right also. Greg is definately a great guy.

Let me know when its going down as I'm around the corner basically and wouldn't mind stopping by to help out.
 
AWSOME! thats what i needed to hear, i posted in newcougar.org to find some background info on his work but i guess you guys can tell me that.


random 3L question.

does the exhaust note of a 3L sound alot different? because i remember my 3L taurus sounded rasp as all hell w/o mufflers (sounded like a v8 stang at idle till 1500rpms then it sounded like a broke ass crx above that).

i wonder because im putting on a test pipe, straight pipes and magnaflow resonator....
 
That's awesome news!

If my car wasn't a DD, I'd have him do some of my work too that I never have time or the tools for.
 
yeah all you need to know is greg rebuilt his SVT, is building his cougar, did the header and cam install on my car and well as a few others, has done two or maybe 3 atx to mtx swaps and even a mtx to atx swap all in a fairly short time span. Oh yeah he also helped Roger build his 3L.

definately a good choice if you need someone to work on your car ...
 
awsome i cant wait, my car is gunna whip! and i just cant wait to get it back i have to bum rides everywhere and its a pain!

another thing, what should i do with my old engine or whats left of it?

well what are you having greg build? a straight 3L, a hybrid? SVT cams or taurus cams, etc?

sell, throw out, junk, scrap for cash, etc ...
 
Okay guess you won't be needing my old SVT motor with only 74k miles... hmm... oh maybe I'll just buy an old beat up contour and swap it in? Will it swap into a Topaz? Anyone know this?
