I hate you guys!

The Bumper on a VW comes off in like 8 min. It's surprisingly easy. My friends and i got bored and took mine off just for giggles on day, and we had it off, headlights out, and all back together in 20 min. Just need a Torx screwdriver, i think it's a t27, but i dont recall off hand.
 
Don't feel too bad, I have to remove headlight assemblies to get mine done due to clearance issues. Good thing I defeated DRL's and used silverstar's. I used to change lights constantly. You say why defeat the DRL's...they are not separate lights from the low beams so the lights are constantly on and on lower power.
 
Now that the install is done; it wasn't really as bad of a job as it sounds; the bumper does come off really easy. :crazy: But since my car had been wrecked just a little, I wound up having to take both front wheels off to get the fender-to-bumper bolts out and la-di-da. But now it's done!!!


New headlights on a MK4 Golf = 3 cans of Dr. Pepper worth of work. :crazy: Here's the job; more or less in order. Mac ratchet FTMFW!!!1

Thanks, Ross. :cool: I think I might get some yellow/amber DRL bulbs since they're on all the time; that should make you happy! :p Plus I'm going to get some fancy blue'ish lowbeam bulbs to go in the projector housings. I leveled them today; but I'll have to run at night to make sure I did a good job. :blackeye:
 
u should of told me you were looking for headlights, i'm selling a set of ecode projectors with halo's for 1/4 of what they normally cost.
 
Btw, it looks pretty good, have you thought about textured rub strips, and the black 2 bar grill or something of the sorts? What are your plans for this car?
 
i ran into the same problem trying to remove my friends escort headlights for wet sanding. I thought it was a mean joke by ford.
 
GRRR Rob!! :mad: That's ok, I think I decided to not go with angel-eyes. As for the black two-bar grille; that's next - maybe even this weekend next. :crazy: I don't really like textured rubstrips, I'm just not a fan. I am planning to tint the windows (after the drop) and black out the B-pillars. It's a dog-slow 2.0, so I'd like to make it look pretty good and run pretty good; no show stopper here.
 
cams are pretty good addition to those motors. My friend had one in his and that thing was pretty nasty. His exhaust wasnt too loud either. A chip never hurts. I'm probably going to be doing a full turboback exhaust and a k04 upgrade for my little 1.8T

how do you like the VW in general?
 
I like it. I mean, I've had a couple parts fall off while driving; but it's still a pretty stout little ride. It's solid and strong in the corners in stock form; suspension upgrades will bring out the solid chassis even more. The transmission is indestructable, and that's all there is to it. VW must build their trannies to big rig specs! The 2.0L 8V SOHC engine is a work horse. 150hp lump with torque 'til Tuesday. I can't pull a hill like I could in my V6 Contour, but damn if this stout VW chassis doesn't make up for it in the corners. It's definitly a 'fun' car; first and foremost; it's just plain fun to drive. The gearbox is well proportioned (except for the extremely high 5th gear!) and the engine is a great match for the car.

As far as the VW mark goes, I'm actually pretty impressed with the overall quality of the product and the dealership here in town. I am still debating if I should break even with the value/debt on this car and go back for a MK5 GTI or should I keep this MK4 and keep modding it. I drove a white MK5 GTI and it is the balls. It's exactly what I'd want in a car; strong and well-equipped, but still grown up and mature. I looked at the MazdaSpeed 3 and the new Civic SI, but they just seem too over-the-top. The crazy numbers for the MS3 kill it for me. The SI just looks like a ricer right out of the box. The GTI is understated and smooth; hell, it's even knauberized from the factory! The GTI just has a different attitude about it.



So there, I'm pretty much done with Fords; unless I find a nice condition, high milage CSVT or Mustang SVO. I'm a Kraut now. :eek:
 
My suggestion would be to mod the Mk4. Be less expensive in the long run as opposed to more car payments, AND what will be the insurance difference between your Mk4 and a new GTI ?? That's gotta hurt the wallet. I recon there are plenty of upgrades both boneyard & aftermarket that you can make to the interior of the Mk4 to lux it up to your desired level.
