Hol-e-crap. I want to pull my driver's side wheel today and DESTROYED my lug wrench. Check out the attached image.

The jacka$$es at Tires Plus must have run 150+PSI into their impact wrench. :nonono:

I was using a 4 foot piece of fence pipe and putting most of my weight into it (I weigh about 250lbs.) So maybe more like 600ft-lbs.

It hapens

one of my lug keys ripped in half, after trying to detorque a tire shop special

Was it really cold? Did you spray like WD-40 for example to loosen and lubricate things? ... meh it sucks when things like that break...lol stupid tire people.

geez! I think i would take it to the place that did it and tell them to loosen it for you and then show them your lug nut wrench. Thats just insane.

I had the exact same thing happen to me with my old 96GL on I-90 just east of Sturgis, SD. Got a flat on the driver rear, tried to use the hollow lug wrench supplied, bending it almost immediately. Just kept twisting up, I lost hope and phoned home to see if someone could pull up a repair service around there on the internet.

The Sheriff came by and wondered what was going on, showed her what happened, so she called her husband to look in the phone book for a 24hr towing service. Called around, but nobody was there since the motorcycle get together just ended a few days before, so everyone was beat from all the work they had to do during that time.

Ended up calling a friend of hers that ran a towing service, but he was a few cities away. He was the only one that would come out. Charged me something like $20 to change my tire for the spare and $70 for mileage :blackeye:. I just threw the tire in the passenger seat and went to go (since I was a few hours late now), but the battery had died from ~3hrs of hazards being on, so the truck had to give me a jump.

That sucked... just be glad it didn't happen on the side of the road like me.

WOW, now that really sucks.

Yeah, it happened in my garage with my 1/2" ratchet only 3ft away. ;)

I was amazed that I didn't snap the stud. The only time that I've had to use more force when loosening something was when I had to take off my front spindle nuts. I uses a 1/2" drive breaker bar and a 6' piece of fence pipe.

BTW, I ALWAYS use anti-seize when putting stuff back together. WI winters weld stuff together with rust.

Yah, that can happen. We usually run about 90psi to our guns to torque them, they can be adjusted tho.
