Just a warning to you americans who watch Top Gear, you may take offence to the latest show, espes if you are from Alabama (sp), just a friendly warning

Honestly,

They kinda brought it on themselves for being idiots, but that does not excuse the rednecks from trying to kill them. I saw earlier this evening.

the show was entirely in the US, started off with them each having to buy a car for under $1000, Clarkson Bought a Camero, May a Cadillac and Hamster a Dodge Ram, and had to drive them from the sourthern tip of Florida to New Orleans.

One of the challenges, was while driving through alabama, was that each of the cars had to attract as much negative attention as poss, lets just say, they suceeded.

Yeah that wasn't a smart thing to do on their part. Whether or not that really happened its not a smart thing to do. To much intolerance. It would be like me going to England and yelling the Queen is a Whore to everyone who passed by. I would be shocked if I survived the night unscathed.

They went in some of the craziest states in the US to shoot footage. The only thing that worries me is some people are going to think all of America is like that.

I'm curious .. how did they register the cars? In MA you have to have residency to register a purchased vehicle, I believe.

No kidding! It isn't like this is the only place like that...go to a black neighborhood in Detroit with "KKK forever" painted on your car....see how long you live,

Hell, go to San Fransisco with "Only hetero is normal" or something like that and see what gets thrown at your car!

People are the same everywhere when you attack some belief.

 But it was fricking hilarious though!

Just because you have freedom of speach does not mean you should use it where ever and when ever you like. I offer as an example the crazy church that stalks funerals for our fallen soldiers. Those people are deliberately provoking reactions with what they do - that is illegal.

What these yo-yos did may not illegal (borderline as it nearly started a free-for-all), just stupid. And yes, I believe it really did happen. Those 'slogans' have little impact on a goofy brit like jc, and would seem to be trivial in the minds of most brits, but evoke deep emotion in some in the US. One of the first things the lady pointed out was the 'Nascar sucks' thing. I don't care for nascar, and it makes not sense to me that somebody would get all bent about it, but she did.

As was pointed out in this thread, we can paint slogans on the side of a car in England and get similar reactions from the british. Those slogans would have no importance or even be understood by us, but they would be highly offensive to a brit. Broken square anybody?

Idiots. I would have done the same. Just like painting "I love the KKK" and driving around NYC. Why don't they just paint "America deserved 9/11" and see what happens in ANY state.
