Loss of Power: Video attached! ERR: PS190

When Blackcoog replaced the fuel pump on my 00 returnless, he bought the Focus SVT assembly, pulled the pump, scraped the rest that come with it. Then he cut off the plugs on both pumps, wired in the clip from the old to the new, put that pump in the CSVT holding box and reinstalled on the car. No removal of internal snap rings, didn't drop the gas tank either. Process was done casually in about 30-45 min.

I had the exact same problem, my car was bucking and completely loosing power over 3K, the filter on the outside of the pump was completely back.

My car has had 0 issues and runs like a dream. What I don't understand is why people go through the trouble and money when trying to figure out what is wrong. If the car runs fine with a full tank, and runs like ass when it gets low, why replace spark plugs, wires, coils, etc. I understand his car sat for awhile, mine did too before I got it, but take a minute, step back, and see what changes. Good luck, it looked like someone pooped on your fuel pump... thats a ton of debris too!

Cool..

Cool..

Ok, so how would I know if the fuel pump is bad? Anyway to test it? It seems to run just fine at low throttle, I can hear it if I listen closely. If it is still working is it still good?

Thanks for the Focus svt tip. I will check that.

Wahoo!!!

Wahoo!!!

Praise God (Couldn't have done it without Him, especially on that last part)! Up and going! Finally got the fuel tank back in. Three jacks, a new tank gasket (from the filler $9.30~ from Ford, had one in stock..whew!) and a lot of effort/patience to get this going. I could not have done it without your support, contour.org!

I actually used the original pump, since one guy on here said his buddy said the pump either worked or not. This original one on mine is working great! It is a mean machine!

I removed the "V" screen (removed with a dremel) at the base of the pump and used the side shoot to pick up fuel from the side instead of the bottom. I enjoyed frisbeeing the disk screen. The pump is working great and so is the car. I am not sure the spark plugs are helping much, but at least they are new too. Sure couldn't hurt.

Later, and thanks again!

Update on Contour Fuel problems

Update on Contour Fuel problems

Hey Guys. Just wanted to let you all know the car is still running like a greased pig. Hard to catch! Lots of fun (my wife hates it..oops). Been racing a few other cars. It surprises me how well it keeps up with some of the V8s. Still using the factory pump, no screens or filters except the one inline to the engine.

Oh, just got a 2001 Ford Mustang GT Convertible for my wife. Maybe I can get her to run against me... I wish... Probably no hope, but entertaining. Later....

Mopar? Hrm...

Mopar? Hrm...

Man, sometimes you have too many cars.. I am at that point! I must have been thinking about parts for the Durango R/T... gag.. that is horrible.

I wonder if the Durango's fuel pump would fit? Wonder what the fuel volume is...? Oh, well.. sorry.. I fixed it.. thanks!
