Well i had to take the SeVT in for emissions before the end of the month. I have been getting an intermittant cel for P0171. I also was getting a P1455 for the DFPE, or something like that. So the other week I cleared the pending codes. All but three self checks ran, can pass with two having not run. Well driving around yesterday I got one more to run, but not the one for the pre-cats ..... Also had the pending code still. So needless to say I wasn't sure if it would pass emision testing or not. I noted that one of the down stream O2 sensors wasn't reading.

Anyway it passed testing. The kicker? I go to start the car to leave the test center and the CEL is on for P0171 . talk abou timing and or luck ....

I don't believe some of the things I read when digging around for information. Like if the vehicle fails its test and the cat monitor test has not been compelted for the retest that monitor has to have run and be complete.

theres a trick the inspectors can sometimes do on the ford with a cel being on itll still pass.. its something to do with the questions it asked before they plug it in..

I did something similar with my SVT. I had it tested with two not ready. There were pending codes for the VSS for some reason but they didn't even show up in the testing.

I managed to slip through the emissions testing for about 4 years with my P1518 code but couldn't earlier this year.

as far as I know the cel wasn't on before the test. from my reading if the cel is on its an immediate failure.

you can pass with two tests not ready.

What's emissions testing?

Alaska, land of NO state vehicle inspections, NO state emissions testing, and, uh, no roads .....

Well, at least I don't live in MA, right Ian?

Oh I know. I completed the entire drive cycle on my SVT and on my way there, I noticed a pending code. I pulled over and cleared it forgetting that clearing codes causes the entire drive cycle to start all over again. I drove around for a little while following the drive cycle procedure until only 2 were not ready. Then I went back for testing. It passed with a pending code.

Pending code? What exactly are you talking about.....a code that is there but hasn't triggered the cel? Here in metro Atlanta if your cel is on and your car is 98 or newer (OBII of course) you don't pass period. I also know some inspection stations will look for a cat even if your cel isn't on and fail you.

yes often before the cel comes on the code will be pending. yes there should be a visual inspection also, but i don't think mine was visually checked .... but i do have a cat on my car.

theres a trick the inspector can do with ford to get them to pass with the cel on.. my 2 svt had a svt that would just stay on all the time but he tricked the inspection program and it passed

My brothers Mazda 6 has no codes but there computer wouldn't connect and they said that he had to fix it. There must be a pinched wire or something because a regular obd scanner works just fine. They actually brought in a specilist for the system and he said he had to find away to fix it and they couldn't run it on the sniffer. Now that sucks for him. Anyone want a 6 that can't pass ct emmisions.

I've seen this happen a lot at work. 99% of the time its a fuse that powers the ODBII and the cig lighter. If your using a hand held scanner that has it's own power (battery) it will still access the computer, but scanners that need power from the port like the inspection machine it will not read...

I fix those all day long at the store. Grab a pair of needle nose, crack open the fuse box, pull the fuse, replace, and reap rewards. The average Joes makes it out like I'm a hero every time I do it
