Metal Failure

I am a senior at Marquette, I am in a course called Failure analysis. I have a chance to do a project where I take any type of metal failure and perform an analysis on it. (like csi on the fracture) I was wondering if anyone had a metal part that has failed. I know there are a few axles out there that have broken, broken connecting rod, piston, or anything that has failed. If anyone has anything they would like to send my way I will figure out why and how it failed. I can post the results if anyone is interested as well.

Thanks for your time
Anyone interested either post here or pm me.

I can break something for you and send it your way. I have to go to the junkyard in the morning and I know I can get something good.

Well I guess it's too bad that I threw away both of my bent rear lateral arms... as well as the bent sway bar and wheel knuckle.

A bent part won’t work, because I am studying the actual fracture surface. To determine what type of fracture it was and how it originated.

how about something from my car? It's smashed up pretty good.

EDIT: I'll have a look around my dad's shop tomorrow. He's had a bunch of cop cars in lately that have been through some good wrecks. Hopefully something will be really challenging for you.

I've got a few broken parts sitting around....but none of their failures would be a challenge to figure out.

Are you living on campus @ Marquette? We need to get together some time for a meet in the area.

Friend of mine's mom has a cool (and unique) job where she operates a huge machine that pulls metal (like beams and whatnot) apart until it breaks, measuring how strong it is.

Currently she's in Panama City doing that.

...Oh, and she has owned 2 Contours; A 96LX that she gave to her daughter who later rolled it in a ditch and a 99 that she tools around in still.

pole120 I am just off campus in a college house. As for a meet my svt is in IL in my moms garage in storage for now
