Misfire on cylinder 2

I am having a misfire on cylinder 2. I was driving the car with a slight stumble which I wasn't too worried about but then all of a sudden while driving my SES light begins flashing and flashing. It got worse instantly. It would only stop blinking when at idle. I felt the stumble mainly when accelerating through 1,2,3rd gear. I defiantly could hear the misfire, but can't explain why it would be happening. I put Bosch wires and Autolite double platinums in the car at 134k and it has close to 141k. I don't think the plugs are bad, nor the wire. But for kicks, I pulled the plug on that cylinder, and it was wet, including the threads. I looked down the plug hole, and could tell that it was damp in the cylinder too. Is this a case of a bad plug, or wire? The stores were closed so I couldn't get neither. :help::help::help::shrug::shrug::shrug:

Wires, plugs or fuel injectors. In your case, I would guess it is the Bosch wires. Confirm by switching out the wires, put the entire 2 in 3 and 3 in 2 positions. You should get a P0303 if it is the wire.

Tony2005,

Thanks for the quick response. I will do just that! I don't believe its the injector, because the cylinder was wet, as was the plug. Is it more likely that a wire stopped working, over a plug?

Thanks,
Adam

Could be injector, plug or wire issue. Do the wire exchange and see if you get the other CEL code. If not, you can change the plug to see if you get the other one. Incidentally, that was what I did in the middle of nowhere (actually in between New York and DC on the Turnpike). Forget to bring my scanner and had to locate the nearest Autozone by asking at a gas station. Then had to troubleshoot by borrowing their code reader and trying out wires and plugs. Spent an additional 1 hour and $20 for sp remover and sp.

Great! I will try this today, and let you know what happens! :)

Well turns out it was a bad coil! I tried a new plug and new wire, and the misfire was still there. Installed a Duralast Coil from AutoZone, and car runs much better!. I was having a stumbling at idle to WOT for about 1 second, then the car would catch up, along with a misfire at low rpm, and stumbling and power loss and now thats gone. While I was working back there, I changed the 3 plugs in the back, and all the Bosch wires again under warranty. The plugs and wires were only on the car before since May. While I was in there I pulled out the PCV valve, shook it, it rattled, cleaned it with alcohol and reinstalled.

I also bought a can of SeaFoam, should I run the whole can through the gas tank just to help clean out the injectors, and cylinders?

And I drove the car 2 days with the misfire, do you think the gas polluted my oil too bad?

Thanks,
Adam

Probably not. But if you are concerned, just change the oil. 6 quarts at $3 per quart (synthetic) = $18. That shouldn't break the bank. ;)

I also added one can of SeaFoam to my gas tank which was a little over 1/2 full. Was this a good idea? To help clean out the cylinders and whatnot.

Most of us fill up after adding one bottle/can of Seafoam but half tank is fine too.

Ok...maybe I'll add some more fuel tomorrow. I shouldn't worry about it though if I have around 9 gallons in there? I just want it to be concentrated enough to help with any carbon that might've built up in cylinder #1 and #2.

PLEASE START READING THE TITLE OF THE FORUMS, people.

this is the MAINTENANCE forum.. as in.. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE or removal replacement of parts when you KNOW the problem part.

A question on a problem is a troubleshooting issue, and thus I am moving it there.
