MK1 Mondeo Morette on Pre 98 Contour

Ended up with the right hand lights :-/. I tried so hard to get the LH drive lamps and that combined with finding a seller that was willing to ship to me was almost impossible. :nonono:

Well luckily the round lamps are standard sizes, so once you have figured out how to get everything to mount up you can buy the correct lamps and install them in the Morettes.

Is it the lines molded into the glass lenses that regulates the L or R hand light direction? Is there a marking on the lense somewhere?

What about swapping the right side glass for the left glass or simply turning the lense upsidedown? :ponder:

It is the lines molded on the inside of the lense. Unfortunately swapping or flipping them will not work. Both the left and right lights are the same. "left-traffic countries have low-beam headlamps that "dip to the left"; the light is distributed with a downward/leftward bias to show the driver the road and signs ahead without blinding oncoming traffic. Headlamps for right-traffic countries have low beams that "dip to the right", with most of their light directed downward/rightward."

OK, yeah - I will just fabricate the Morettes to fit then swap the lenses out I guess......

How about these 5.75"?

I cannot remember the exact size, but those first lights are the kind of thing that you will need. The highbeams do not matter as they do not differentiate between LHD and RHD. The lights that come with the Morettes are Cibies. I need to buy one new one because one of mine is cracked (due to the hood squashing the Morettes before I cut the hood frame).

Actually that Contour with the GTP front bumper just had painted headlights or headlight covers with holes in them. They were not Morettes.

He's right. They were the factory lenses, molded together. The tubes allowed the Hella 90mm projectors to shine through. I didn't want the hassle or downtime of fitting Morettes onto a daily driver. The Hellas allowed me to work in bits and pieces.

... Or just slap in some Hella Projectors ... ;)

This is supposed to be a cheap upgrade/mod. No hellas for me. I'm not a huge fan of them on most cars anyway. The post98 contours look fantastic with projectors though .

If you can figure out how to install these without cutting the bumper and the hood I will be quite impressed. The problem was that the lights are taller than the stock Pre-98 Contour lights and they install slightly lower than the top of the bumper. As the stock bumper curvature actually sits under the stock headlights, I had to cut the bumper to allow the Morettes to fit.

^ eek, I didn't see that part of your post yesterday.... That really sucks :-/. Sounds like I can't get around those issues....

Well I agree with it not looking good in the stock pre-98 fluted housings, a projector would look great in a morette style housing. And the light output can't be beat by a reflector.

It's not just about the price. "No hellas for me. I'm not a huge fan of them". I don't want to spend another $130+ for two projectors either.

I am going to have to agree, especially if they are halogen. They were a tremendous upgrade from the factory lamps, but there are a lot of better options out there. The one thing they do have going for them is that they are sealed, and don't need any kind of weatherproofing.
